AJAX & Posting Reccomendation
I''m currently developing a photo gallery website with Rails. Each photo can be commented upon. What I''d like to do is, once the user posts a comment, use AJAX to submit the comment and then automatically update the page with the comment the user just submitted. I also don''t want to use Prototype or the built in AJAX that comes with Rails... it''s too fat

Reccomended user? Root or "normal"?
Is there any problem to run icecast as a normal user? I know that if run along with liveice, I'll have to setup /dev/dsp to that user, but what about TCP/IP ports? Will it be able to run normally or I have to run it as root? Will this help in the stability of the system? This would allow a crash to only crash the user's memory space and not the system's space. Any suggestion is

Quickbooks revisited
I did testing on generating this report from a 130 MB Quickbooks file. Locally, 15 seconds. Samba Server, 1:35. Shared off of my win98 Workstation, 2+ mins. I do not understand the reason it is SOO slow. I know it is a fairly large file. The only explanation I can come up with is the way QuickBooks is accessing the files. Maybe jumping all around the file, requiring many operations on the

Forcing FCGI at dreamhost
Greetings all, I''ve got an app in production at dreamhost, but I can''t seem to force FCGI on it. I have it enabled for the domain in the admin panel, have checked the file permissions in my public folder, and tried firing the scripts from the command line. When firing either dispatch.cgi, or dispatch.fcgi from the command line, I get a 500 internal server error on BOTH.

Noob with Overwhelming Deployment Woes...
I''m doing some searching for deployment options, and I feel like I''m getting buried in a lot of new technology and assumptions that I know all that it''s dependent on. In the past I''ve done small things with PHP where I just dump the app in a folder and everything works out of the box. I found that everyone is using Capistrano, which relies on Subversion

Reccomendations for connecting to 3-4 PSTN lines?
Hello, I'm looking to connect Asterisk with three (four in the future) PSTN lines, and would like to get some opinions on the TDM400 Digium card, vs. sip gateways like the Mediatrix 1204, vs. other hardware solutions I'm not yet aware of. I need the ability to prioritize which PSTN lines are used for outgoing calls (I understand this can be done with the Mediatrix --

New PBX Help

We had a standard pbx from an area communications company, and I'm not quite sure about what kind of phone lines were there, I only know that their were actually 3 phone numbers, but everyone could get an outside line if they needed
