R GUI question
...uld work very well. I have a little exposure to Tcl/TK. Though I'm not as big of a fan of this as I am of Java, I could suck it up and use it, but I'm not sure that its installation is a whole lot simpler? What, in your experience, is the easiest way to accomplish something like this? To recapitulate, my criteria are: 1.) Easy installation 2.) Ease of use (GUI) 3.) Interface with functions written in R 4.) Cross-platform I'm willing to learn a new language (scripting or otherwise) if necessary. Thanks so much. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/R-GUI-question-tp161496...

vectorizing sapply() code (Modified by Aaron J. Mackey)
...upper=c(1-1e-5, rep(log(1-1e-8), 2*ct)), method="L-BFGS-B" ); For those interested in the math, this is the MLE procedure to estimate the false positive/false negative rates (a and b) of three diagnostic (A, B and C) tests that have the observed performance recapitulated in dataframe "d", but no "gold standard" (sometimes called "latent class analysis", or LCA). Thanks for any help, -Aaron

rsync mirroring and hardlink issues
I'm running a mirror of several repositories that are fetched using separate rsync runs. Since some of those repositories are hosting related files, I'm using the hardlink utility[1] in order to save disk space. However, I've noticed an issue that may lead to potential file metadata inconsistencies when using hardlink. Consider the following scenario: - two repositories (rep_a and

simple plot question
Hi, please excuse the most likely very trivial question, but I'm having no idea where to find related information: I try to recapitulate very simple plotting behavior of Excel within R but have no clue how to get where I want. I have tab delimited data like cell treatment value line a treat1 4 line a treat2 3 line b treat1 8 line b treat2 11 I'd like to have a plot (barplot), that specifies 2 scales on the x-axis (cell and t...

Samba 4.8.4 + BIND 9.9.4 - possibility of nonsecure DNS updates
Hello, everyone. To recapitulate the results of our research: 1) I can confirm Samba 4.8 and Bind 9.9.4 (distribution package) on CentOS 7 (tested od 7.5) work even with dynamic DNS updates without any additional fixes or need to recompile Bind package. I think it will work also on other RHEL 7 clones, so we should update Wiki pag...

Summary on graceful exit from fortran.
...ral levels down) --- without knocking R over --- if an error condition was detected. As usual, if there is anything at all reasonable in the question, and if there exists an answer, Brian Ripley will tell you the answer. Since Prof. Ripley's answer was already posted to this list, I won't recapitulate it here. Let me just say that I tried it (the second version using a Fortran subroutine which calls a C function) and it worked. Since Prof. Ripley supplied explicit code, it was trivial to implement. I had to change ***ONE*** line, in the Fortran code: the declaration ``int nc'' causes...

Samba 4.8.4 + BIND 9.9.4 - possibility of nonsecure DNS updates

square polar mapping - backgrounds
Hello, I wanted to find out more about square polar mapping, cause that whole stuff is a bit tricky - to me - and not so easy to understand. Searching the web did't get me any results, so I wonder what the background of square polar mapping is. Is it derived from some mathematical publications or just the result of a brilliant intuition of a Vorbis programmer ? ;) Thanks. Stoffke

Making TIFF images with rtiff
Many medical journals and publishers require that images, whether photographs or line art, be submitted as high resolution .TIFF images. One option for R users is to produce an image in one format and to convert it to a .TIFF file using a second software program. My experience has been that this option often results in images of poorer quality, often with blurry contours, and a loss of
