Dynamic Failover
I am faced with a network that needs to autoswitch to isdn should
T-1 go down. After a shorewall search it looks to be quite a deal with
routing
config with linux. Like scripts written to deal with knowing the T-1 is
down.
I looked into a cisco router that does this. around $3000
This network has used shorewall as the gateway for 4 years now.
Currently Fedora as op. system. It appears to me

OT: 1gigabt nics
Begging indulgence of the list - asking here because due
to the higher likelyhood of getting an answer...
I have an application that often loses connection from one machine to
another when one (or more) of the machines has particular brands of
1gig nics, but which runs rock solid when on 10meg nics and some 1
gig nics.
The application senses (falsely) that the connection has been shut

Comparing switchpoints from segmented
Hello everyone
Not strictly an R question but close... hopefully someone will be able
to help. I wish to compare the switchpoints in two switchpoint
regressions. The switchpoints were estimated using the segmented
library running in R, and I have standard errors for the estimates. I
initially thought I could just bootstrap confidence intervals for the
difference between the switchpoints,

T100P & Integrated (D&V) T1 -> Public IP Range
Hello,
I have a T100P card on a Red Hat 8 machine with Asterisk installed on it and I'm trying to get the data routing properly through it.
I purchased an Integrated Data/Voice T1 Line with channels 1-6 voice and 13-24 data. The line is plugged directly into the Asterisk machine's T100P card.
Previous to the asterisk set up we had an Adtran router that connected everything to what the

Access 97 on Wine 20041019
Hi all,
I'm having trouble getting Access 97 working with Wine 20041019. Word and
Excel work just fine, as far as I've used them, but Access simply refuses to
start. I've installed off an original installer CD through the WineTools (
2.11jo) utility. I customised the install, removing everything except for
the basic application files for Word, Excel and Access. I've also

How to identify the two largest peaks in a trimodal distribution
Hello all
I'm trying to do a simulation that involves identifying the minimum
point between two peaks of a (usually) bimodal distribution. I can do
this easily if there are only two peaks:
CnBdens<-density(Ys/Xs) #probability density function for ratio of Ys
to Xs
for(p in 1:512) ifelse(CnBdens$y[p]>CnBdens$y[p-1],peak1<-p,break)
#identifies first peak in probability

How to add System V Filesystem to Centos?
Hi,
I am working on a project where I have to move some parts files from an
old Unix server. I have tared the files to floppy disc, but I can't
mount them.
After doing some reasearch I have found that the SCO Unix ver 3.2 uses a
System V filesystem I think. From the article that I have read I need to
add this filesystem to my kernel to be able to mount and read the floppy
discs.
Can

ext4?
Listee's...
I have a 5.5 box and I have formatted a partition as ext4 however I
can't mount it, the mount command is telling me its an unknown file
system type. fsck tells me the partition is a clean ext4 partition but
I can't mount it.
Some reasearch has lead me to believe the problem is that ext4 isn't
enabled in the kernel by default in 5.5 (this was originally a 5.2 box

Migrating existing debian system to KVM/libvirt
I have a dying machine running debian etch that acts as a web/mail server
that I would like to virtualize using debian/kvm/libvirt. Is it as simple as
removing the hard-disk (multiple ext2/ext3 partitions) from the dying
machine into my newer server and then writing a custom xml config file? Is
there a tutorial on doing this somewhere?
Thanks.

Trying to use segmented in a function
Hi folks
I wonder if anyone can help me. I want to run some simulations to see
how big a sample size might be necessary to distinguish a curved
bivariate relationship (e.g. something that might be best described
by a quadratic model) from a relationship that is two straight lines
with a sudden change in slope (e.g. something best described by a
breakpoint regression). I am using

random "monitor socket did not show up"
Hello gentlemen!
I just experienced this weird thing:
I have 2 machines (one is a Dell Pe1950 with 2 Xeon 5130, the other is
a Fujitsu RX200S6 with 2 Xeon E5645), both run CentoOS 5.6, the DELL
has the 2.6.18-238.9.1.el5 while the Fujitsu runs the
2.6.18-238.12.1.el5 kernel.
But when I try to do a virsh create with this script

Howto set the option script=no for a tap device in the xml file
Hello,
I am trying to run a virtual machine with qemu-kvm and libvirt as a
user. In order to start the virtual machine I setup a tap device
manually, add it to the bridge and activate it via ifconfig. But I
cannot tell libvirt to not try to add the definded tap device to the
bridge by itself. It always fails telling me it cannot add tap0 to br0.
Thats the xml snippet for defining the network:

Polycom IP 300/500 Conferencing Behavior
Hello,
I've got a mixture of SPIP 300 and 500 phones in production for
various clients. I've got the XML settings configured for local
conferencing, but I'm not seeing the expected behavior from the phone when
I attempt to conference two calls together. According to the manual, while
talking to the first party, you simply hit Conference, dial the second
party and then Conference

RoR on Apache2
Hello,
I''ve been going though the "4 Days on Rails" tutorial at
http://rails.homelinux.org/ test-driving ruby on rails using the WEBrick
server without problems. I''m trying to move the app to be seen by
apache2, and am having some troubles. I''ve looked through many guides
online which all say pretty much the same thing, which, I think, I am
doing.

Re: Security Concern..
[Mod: This message is a reason *why* linux-security is moderated list. This
is also a reason why Rogier, myself, Alan Cox and others really do not want
to have completely open lists that deal with security related aspects of
running a system as way too many people just jump to conclusions and give
suggestions without doing any reasearch on a subject. -- alex (co-moderator
