RealWorld Stats; Not achieving expected results
Hey guys,
We have a brand new Dell Poweredge 1850, Single Proc 3Ghz, 2GB RAM,
15K RPM HD's RAID 1.
We also have a Sangoma 4 port T1/PRI card.
We are not using G729. Everything is G711.
Every call is PRI -> Asterisk G711 -> Sip Carrier
We just filled up 2 PRI's and reached a CPU usage of 70%.
There's no way we can do 4 PRI's worth of traffic. Will a 2nd CPU

nls and factor
Is it possible to include a factor in an nls formula?
I've searched the help pages without any luck so I
guess it is not feasible.
I've given it a few attempts without luck getting the
message:
+ not meaningful for factors in:
Ops.factor(independ^EE, a)
This is a toy example, my realworld case is much more
complicated (and can not be solved linearizing an
using lm)
a<-as.factor(c(rep(1,50),rep(0,50)))
independ<-rnorm(100)
respo<-rep(NA,100)
respo[a==1]<-(independ[a==1]^2.3)+2
respo[a==0]<-(independ[a==0]^2.1)+3
nls(respo~independ^EE+a,start=list(EE=1.8),trace=TRUE)

Mail server setup for small ISP
...ually use virtual machines a lot for isolation and easy backups and
migration (when a hardware node is underpowered, it is easy to migrate
one or more virtual machines to another hardware node easily).
I have looked at iSCSI and drbd for high-availability of the storage:
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/realworld/82284/san-on-the-cheap/page1.html.
This looks like it should be doing a great job of high availability storage.
For mail server, I guess I should look at an MTA and IMAP/POP server
that supports LDAP and/or MySQL for users. Postfix should be a good
choice for MTA, as I know it (at least a lit...

How dows RoR work?
This is so frustrating. Is RoR that easy to learn or is it hype or is it
just me? I wonder how many newbies like me are surfing the docs trying
to get a clue of the basics. Every tutorial I find is much the same, and
seems to skip the fundmental parts. How should you understand the Ruby
API http://api.rubyonrails.org/?

Correlation with small N
Hello r-proffessionals,
this is not a special R-Question, but have anybody
a good reason for nonstatistican's why the interpretation of correlations
with cases under 20-30 are dangerous !?
...i have got problems explain this without formula's and perhaps anybody
know a realworld example what point this problem !?
thanks for any suggestion or url/doc etc.

Really Get 96 Simul Calls?
Hey guys,
I'm looking for some realworld specs on somebodys machine that will work
with the Digium 4-port T1/PRI card and that will support 96 simultaneous
calls.
Dell is soon to release the PowerEdge 1850: 2U, Dual 3.6Ghz Xenon, 1Gb DDR2
RAM, Dual 36GB Ultra320 SCSI RAID, Hot swap Powersupply, one 64bit 133Mhz

Colomachine & TE405P
...ter and this combination fits my
budget. Has anyone else used colomachine with asterisk? how has it
performed? I plan to run the latest trixbox on it with the RAM upgrade
to 1GB. Should I go to the 2GB RAM? Will this combination handle all 4
spans at full load? I'm mostly intrested in realworld experiences. I
hear a lot of "don't trust because of the cheap price" but when I talk
to actual users they seem quite happy with these servers. Your opnions
please.

Asterisk in VMWare, how does it perform and what is the limit?
Hi,
I'm coming up with ideas about building a cluster of asterisk servers,
and am exploring the virtualization option.
I'm curious to know some real-world data about how many extensions a
VMWare install on good hardware could support.
I've seen stories about how the hypervisor timeslicing can wreak havoc
on call quality at some point.
Is this really the case? If so, what's a

surface3d grid from xyz dataframe
Hi List,
I am trying to plot a grid with an overlayed height. I have a dataframe
with four variables:
x,y,gridvalue, height. The dataframe has 2.5mio observations (ie grid
points),
I assign colors through the gridvalue using map_color_gradient thus
producing:
x,y,gridvalue, height, gridcol as variables of the dataframe. The grid
dimensions are 1253 x 2001 (=2507253 data points).

[PLUG] new plugin, acts_as_modified
Nothing special, just my first plugin. it came out of a request I saw on
the list from someone who wanted to be able to tell if a model''s attributes
had changed prior to being saved. Well, this plugin does just that (at
least I hope it does).

Please see the README for details. Constructive comments and criticisms are

their _external_ (64.x) IP''s from internal hosts, on the DMZ _and_ the
LAN. (Is this correct? I don''t believe I''ve messed up so far, but I''m
not certain.) This is important, so that people on the lan can access
their mailserver (in the dmz) by it''s realworld IP address. Thats part
of what I''m having trouble with though (more on that in a bit).
Next, I''ve got some ports forwarded, from yet another external IP, to a
couple internal hosts. Here are the relevant lines from my

How to verify ecc for ram is active and enabled?
Is there a method to view the status of the rams ecc single or double bit errors? I would like to confirm that ecc on my xeon e5520 and ecc ram are performing their role since memtest is ambiguous.
I am running memory test on a p6t6 ws, e5520 xeon, 2gb samsung ecc modules and this is what is on the screen:
Chipset: Core IMC (ECC : Detect / Correct)
However, further down "ECC" is
