how many people still use NIS?
Hello listmates, I have discovered a very strange SFTP problem which I can not connect to anything but NIS thus far. See here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-server-73/sftp-seems-to-fail-for-nis-accounts-under-openssh-5-x-816020/ http://readlist.com/lists/suse.com/suse-linux-e/38/193419.html Hence the question: is NIS (YP) still in use much anywhere for authentication? Thanks. Boris. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/attachments/20101001/7f0e1ad0/...

Attempting to checksum a non-TCP/UDP packet, dropping a protocol 1 packet
Pasi, in http://readlist.com/lists/lists.xensource.com/xen-users/10/50495.html you mention a netback fix without identifying which one. In going over the changes as well as looking at the code, I can''t spot anything related, or see how non-TCP, non-UDP packets could pass checksum_setup(), and hence I don''...

Xen migration fails
...t_misc type binfmt_misc (rw) sunrpc on /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs type rpc_pipefs (rw) none on /var/lib/xenstored type tmpfs (rw) Did any one encounter this error before? Searching around, I found some work-arounds people have used (using xenstore-rm to remove the link to that particular vbd http://readlist.com/lists/lists.xensource.com/xen-users/0/4325.html) but none of them work for my case. I tried creating a new VM along with a new drbd drive but even that VM was encountering this error when I try to migrate. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Performance issues after samba update (utime?)
....conf hasn't changed, save for the addition of "msdfs root = no" Comparing smbd truss output between these version shows a likely culprit : 3.0.28 is doing lots of utime() calls, and these take a long time on an NFS share. Someone seems to have encountered this issue before : http://readlist.com/lists/lists.samba.org/samba/3/16790.html But I see no followups to this. Any way to fall back to the old behavior, with less utime calls ? Failing that I'd be happy to get any recommandations you guys might have in order to mitigate the issue (or tell me that this is a red herring and I sh...

Kernel 2.6.18-53.1.13.el5 fails on network.
Hi all, After the latest lot of kernel security updates have come out, I updated one of my colo boxes and rebooted. It didn't come back up and fails when booting on: * CPU Microcode update * iptables * eth0 The booting process completes, however as you can imagine, there is no network connectivity at all. The only config changes were installing the new kernel. Booting back into

./configure perfparse -> "configure: error: required library libgd unusable"
I recently had a problem with the configure script from perfparse running properly so that I could 'make install' it to work with Nagios 2.10 on latest CentOS 4.x + RPMForge (see http://readlist.com/lists/centos.org/centos/5/28966.html). Thinking it was a problem that was a result of "yum remove gd", I formatted the box and reinstalled everything. Now, oddly, I still have the same problem, and unlike before (before running "yum remove gd"), I cannot configure it without...

Event loop responsiveness + client
...e is no way to know if a connection has been unbound. An example of this is at: http://pastie.org/249009 To minimize the occurrence of this race condition, the main thread needs to be as fast as possible. Aman pointed me to: http://blade.nagaokaut.ac.jp/cgi-bin/scat.rb/ruby/ruby-core/7872 http://readlist.com/lists/ruby-lang.org/ruby-talk/3/16264.html It seems like a solution would be to have a very fast reactor loop in an OS thread that tracks the state of the connections and updates a data structure that can be queried and send the events to a subscription queue in Ruby main thread. For example,...

Samba 3.0.0: option admin user not working in smb.conf?
Hello List! I successfully installed, configured and joined Samba 3.0.0 on Solaris 9 to Windows 2000 Active Directory. I tried to set the option admin user in smb.conf to user (ingres). After doing so the user isn't able to connect or browse to the Samba server anymore. Without this option the user just connects fine and is able to browse the Samba server. The goal is to have the user

mail server best practices question
Hello all, About a year ago I set up a mail server on CentOS using this howto: http://wanderingbarque.com/howtos/mailserver/mailserver.html I managed to add amavisd-new with clamav and spamassassin. It runs very well, but it runs on CentOS 5.2, and if I try to upgrade, amavisd-new and clamav break. we are now also at the point where a backup mx will need to be implemented. If necessary I am

login scripts --what to use
Hi, We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share. Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files? Thanks, chris
