Can't mount /home anymore
Hi!
I'm new to the list. I have a problem with mounting my home directory since
my PC crashed. I hope that I can get some help on this list as I don't know
much of ext3 myself.
The mount command for my /home gives me the following output:
# mount /dev/sda6 /mnt/tmp/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda6,
missing codepage or other error

Win95 Full System Backup to Samba box?
I have a small home network running three Win95 pcs with a Samba/Linux
server (thanks, Andrew and Linus!!!). All works well.
The question now is what I can do to make a full system backup (including
hidden and system files) from the Win95 boxes to the 8mm tape drive on
the Linux box.
I know I could use smbmount to mount the Win95 drive, and then do a tar or
cpio backup, but I'm not nearly

File system checking on ext3 after a system crash
Hi folks -- My machine is a RHEL 3 with 2.4 kernel installed - with some
large ext3 filesystems on drives connected internally ( >200G)
Now, When this system crashed (for eg:- a CPU panic /hardware error ) -
e2fsck on this filesystem seems to be taking a long time to return thereby
adding to the overall downtime of this system.
could there be any workarounds for my issue?

Looking for a life-save LVM Guru
Dear All,
I am in desperate need for LVM data rescue for my server.
I have an VG call vg_hosting consisting of 4 PVs each contained in a
separate hard drive (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdc1, and /dev/sdd1).
And this LV: lv_home was created to use all the space of the 4 PVs.
Right now, the third hard drive is damaged; and therefore the third PV
(/dev/sdc1) cannot be accessed anymore. I would like

what actually uses xdr_mem.c?
In regards to FreeBSD-SA-03:05.xdr, does anyone know which static binaries
or tools under /bin or /sbin actually use that problem code?
The recent XDR fixes the xdrmem_getlong_aligned(),
xdrmem_putlong_aligned(), xdrmem_getlong_unaligned(),
xdrmem_putlong_unaligned(), xdrmem_getbytes(), and/or xdrmem_putbytes()
functions, but it is difficult to know what uses these (going backwards
manually).

OpenSSH vs AIX 4.3.3 => 5.1 utmp patch
The patch below follows changes in AIX utmp handling made between AIX 4.3.3
and 5.1. With it, utmp entries are properly recorded again.
The patch applies to OpenSSH 3.1p1, and seems to work fine. The co-worker
who sent me the patch hasn't tested backwards compatibility on AIX 4.3.3
systems.

Segfaults with ssh from Red Hat 6.2 openssh-clients-2.5.1p2-1.i386.rpm
The segfault logged below occurs on two different Red Hat 6.2 systems
running OpenSSH installed from the 2.5.1p2 RPM. (Similar problems occured
with the 2.5.1p1 RPM.)
The most recent of the Red Hat 6.2 systems tested is stock except for an
upgrade of rpm-3.0.5-9.6x.i386.rpm and the install of Red Hat's release of
openssl-0.9.5a-3.i386.rpm, both necessary for the OpenSSH RPM install.
