RDNS records are not generated automatically.
Hi All,
This is regarding the reverse DNS issue
1. We are using samba AD 4.4.5 & samba integrated Bind 9.1
2. RDNS records are not being created automatically
Is it possible that RDNS record generate automatically like the Microsoft
Active Directory
Thanks & Regards,

Yes, we've enabled hostname lookups, for a reason. But this logging is ridiculous anyway,
especially in this form when there's *no* rDNS for the given IP. I can understand a log
entry with debug priority if rDNS *mismatches*, but not when there's *no* rDNS. And this
is logged with level=1!
Sigh..

Reverse DNS, Kerberos, and Samba4 as a DC
...tioning in a test environment.
My production network, however, is not quite as nice as my test
network. I have convinced IT (I work for a group of research labs,
independent of the main IT group here) to delegate control of my
department's subdomain to a DNS server I control. However, rDNS has
turned out to be a real sticking point. Subnets are setup
geographically here and I cannot have an entire subnet assigned to my
department. I've brought up using Classless in-addr.arpa. delegation
(RFC 2317) or setting up our own VLAN, but movement has been slow on
these options....

It seems it is being rejected due to the helo domain name - which does
not have a correct rdns.

Another DNS problem
I just changed a DNS/rDNS record using samba-tool. According to
samba-tool the change actually occurred. I can query the new record:

Name=, Records=1, Children=0
A: 192.168.1.6 (flags=f0, serial=149, ttl=900)
Similarly the rDNS shows:...

Centos 6 - disabling IPv6 addressing
...you are looking to avoid, so you may want to try other methods to remove your address in the running configuration.
'All' I need is for the system not to have a global IPv6 address. Then
it will not try to connect to other global IPv6 systems which will
reject the connection, as the IPv6 rDNS cannot be set, given it is a
dynamic IPv6 assigned address from the ISP.

Kerberos with delegated domain
...n't work.
I've sniffed the traffic and I can see that Kerberos goes through both
domains looking for a principle that matches. The problem is that the
reverse DNS always sends back hostname.domain.edu, but the service
principles are hostname.domain.local. I'm guessing Kerberos uses the rDNS to
generate the service principle.
Is there some way to have winbind register both FQDNs as service principals
automatically on join? If not, how would I add a service principal to the
keytab that winbind generates? Or, how can I get Kerberos to use the short
version of principal that does not inc...

I have never tried this, but there is the 'createcomputer=OU' option:
Precreate the computer account in a specific OU.
The OU string read from top to bottom without RDNs
and delimited by a '/'.
E.g. "createcomputer=Computers/Servers/Unix"
NB: A backslash '\' is used as escape at multiple
levels and may need to be doubled or even
quadrupled. It is not used as a separator.
