Plots: displaying mathematical symbols in specific fonts
...play letters and numbers, but I am having
trouble with symbols such as capital delta. Before I go further, I
am using R 2.2.1 on Windows XP with everything in English. I am
trying to save my plot as a windows metafile.
To display different characters in verdana, for example, I first edit
the Rdevga file so that it contains verdana. I can then get verdana
letters and numbers on the plot using a text() command. Things
within an expression() command, however, are not displayed in the
desired font. For example,
windows()
plot(rnorm(15),rnorm(15))
text(0,0,expression(Delta),font=10)

inconsistent fonts generated in postscript file (PR#7795)
Full_Name: Xiang Li
Version: 2.01
OS: WinXP
Submission from: (NULL) (128.248.174.125)
I am trying to use the font of "TT Courier New: bold" to get the equal size of
letters. The "TT Courier New: bold" is the 11th font listed in the Rdevga file.
You can just try a simple case:
plot(1:10, 1:10, xlab = "XILMV", font.lab = 11)
I save the plot in postscript format, and found the font in .ps file becomes
Arial font. While I save the plot in JPEG or PNG format, everything is correct.

Latin 2 encoding + fonts
Hi,
In the FAQ I read about options to specify different fonts than the default
ones for the console (in the file Rprofile) and for the graphical output
(Rdevga). I would however like to replace Latin 1 with Latin 2 enconding for
both (console and graphical) output in Windows and just graphical output in
Linux.
I guess it is possible but I did not find the way.
How can I use the fonts (*.afm) and the (presumably) encondings (*.enc) in
R/rw1081/afm? Ho...

Windows OS, R and unicode
...XP. I can access and insert these symbols using word-processors.
In general these should be available as \u2640 and \u2642 but I can't
make them happen in R using (say) text(5,5, "\u2640") message "invalid

I've replaced Arial with Arial unicode MS in Rdevga and I've tried
various setlocale options with no success (the Murrell/Ripley examples
(Rnews 6/2) do work of course ... so I feel I should be able to do this
myself, but after several hours it is time to ask for help).
I understand from Google results that users on Mac OS and Linux aren...

German umlaut in xlab
Dear all,
which font do I have to choose to use German umlauts at x/ylab in plot? Do I
have to change Rdevga; and how? Or should I use these Hershey vectors?
I looked quite a long time for a solution, which should be easy, so I
thought I'd better ask here.
Maybe some other people have already solved this problem.

Petra

"landscaping" the graphics device
...2000.) Now, I can physically
drag the window to the appropriate proportions, but this will soon become a
big pain, as I'm trying to automate the graphing of a lot of data. Does
anyone know how to get the graphics window to automatically open in the
dimensions I need? I've looked in the etc/Rdevga, but it seems to only be
for font settings.
Thanks so much,
Katherine Gowan :-)

As the output has to be multilingual they are produced in a loop (for
each language).
The strings for the titles, labels ... are stored in a text file (Greek,
English, French...).
The only way I found so far - for Greek - is:
1) change the Rdevga by adding Courier to the fonts (the only font
that worked for me).
2) Change the "language for non-unicode programs" in the windows
setting to Greek
Is there a way to avoid changing the "setting for non-unicode programs"
in windows.

Sans Serif Fonts?
Hi All,
I am preparing a few plots for publication. Unfortunately the journal
requires figures to have all text in a sans serif fonts.
I realise that there is support for the use of Hershey vector fonts in the
function TEXT,
but how do I get the text on axes to be sans serif?
For example, the labels and axis values produced from this line of code:
