Duncan that does indeed look to be the case. Many thanks!
In particular, tests/reg-tests-1d.R optionally loads the Matrix
namespace which allows the test to succeed. Compare:

R 3.6.2 is released
...-branch made at 00:20 so the current one will have been made before the release version run started at 09:00 this morning, and hence the nightly tarball will be of the release candidate. However it will not be called R-patched:

The current version in SVN differs only by the VERSION file. Its NEWS.Rd starts
