Bug in use of grant tables in blkback.c error path?
In dispatch_rw_block_io after a call to HYPERVISOR_grant_table_op, there is the following code which calls fast_flush_area and breaks out of the loop early if one of the handles returned from HYPERVISOR_grant_table_op is negative: for (i = 0; i < nseg; i++) { if (unlikely(map[i].handle < 0)) { DPRINTK("invalid buffer -- could not remap it\n"); fast_flush_area(pending_idx,

dns name server under wine?
...elp me. Problem: win32 app (which uses FQDNs, not plain IP addresses) cannot connect to the Internet when running on 'wine', and it seems that DNS query fails. I've tried running nslookup.exe (win32 version, copied over from windows partition), and this is what I'm getting: rbr@airdb:~/src/bwapps$ wine nslookup.exe www.winehq.org *** Default servers are not available Server: UnKnown Address: 127.0.0.1 *** UnKnown can't find www.winehq.org: No response from server Wine exited with a successful status rbr@airdb:~/src/bwapps$ It appears that nameserver IPs are not ac...

hivex: Make node names and value names with embedded null characters accessible
On Windows, there exist at least two APIs for dealing with the Registry: The Win32 API (RegCreateKeyA, RegCreateKeyW, etc.) works with null-terminated ASCII or UTF-16 strings. The native API (ZwCreateKey, etc.), on the other hand works with UTF-16 strings that are stored as buffers+length and may contain null characters. Malware authors have been relying on the Win32 API's inability to

Serial console hangs with Linux 2.6.20 HVM guest
I am seeing a problem with the Xen emulated serial console. When running a Linux 2.6.20 HVM guest that has CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU=n, the guest blocks on output to the console until it receives input keypresses from `xm console`. This prevents the guest from booting up without banging on some keys, and makes interactive use of the console difficult. By bisecting Linux kernel commits, I found that
