Backing up Samba shares with Seagate Backup Exec for NT
..."A device specefic error occured". My samba shares are all fully operational (I can access them from a client workstation without problems), and I use Backup Exec with other NT shares all the time. Any ideas, or comments on this method of backup are greatly appreciated! Thanks, John Rauch Clark Nuber, P.S.

Creating SMB shares with SWAT
...ould also venture a guess that while the services are restarting, the Samba server would be unavailable to SMB requests. Is it possible to speed up the time that Samba waits to refresh it's smb.conf file? Is there any other way to create shares and have them show up immediately? Thanks! John Rauch

Wine not properly loading config file
Hi, I'm starting with wine. I've been playing with an older version from 2003 and just ugraded to the Wine version : 20050524. I'm using RedHat 9 at the moment. I'm trying to change the resolution and drives in Wine, but for some strange reason, every changes I make in the ~/.wine/config file are not reflecting in wine. I naturally verified if I had any wineserver running in the

Slightly OT: Generators & UPS
Hi, Can anyone shed some light on this: My PC's are on a separate power circuit. Each PC has its own UPS. I have an old Honda generator. When the power goes out, I fire up the generator. However, the UPS's still run on battery. If I connect the PC directly to the socket and bypass the UPS, the PC works. I was told by a UPS supplier, that the power output from the generator was

FreeBSD Security Survey
Dear FreeBSD users and system administrators, While the FreeBSD Security Team has traditionally been very good at investigating and responding to security issues in FreeBSD, this only solves half of the security problem: Unless users and administrators of FreeBSD systems apply the security patches provided, the advisories issued accomplish little beyond alerting potential attackers to the

Ldapsam:editposix: How to continue once it's setup
Hi to everybody, I managed to setup ldapsam:editposix for Debian Lenny as described here: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix and had the impression that in order to add a Samba Unix client, it would be best to continue here: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html However, in the ldapsam:editposix tutorial, the Administrator is mentioned instead of root

Account Administrator works for "net rpc info", but not for "net rpc join"
Hi, I'm using Samba 3.2.5 in conjunction with kernel 2.6.26-2-686-bigmem (Debian Lenny) and recognized that when setting up ldapsam:editposix in accordance with http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix it turns out that net rpc info -U Administrator on Linux box works as expected, whereas net rpc join -U Administrator yields NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE In the server log (file

ldapsam:editposix: Which samba.schema attributes are modified when using "smbpasswd -a"?
Hi, I'm using Samba 3.2.5 on Debian Lenny in conjunction with MIT Kerberos. LDAP user accounts have already been added prior to the Samba installation using the ldapscripts package (also included in Debian). I understand that I have to run "smbpasswd -a" as root on the Samba server for each user that's supposed to be visible to (and usable by) Samba as well (a whole bunch of

[OT] Adding InetOrgPerson schema when using ldapsam:editposix module
Hi, I admit that this is OT, at least slightly. While I've successfully used the ldapsam:editposix module in conjunction with the "net sam" and "net rpc" toolchain, which provides me with both the POSIX and the Samba account info for each account stored centrally in an LDAP DIT, I would like to have the info related to an InetOrgPerson as well. What's the easiest
