SAMBA, NIS and NFS
...machine as a share...enter SAMBA I installed SAMBA on the Solaris E450. (because I have complete control on the Solaris machine but I can only make requests regarding the SGI) Now the problem: When I try to mount the share in windows from the command prompt using: "net use h: \\mar-pepe\lrathbone", I get the error : System error 1240 has occurred. The account is not authorized to log in from this station. When I try to log in from any UNIX box (Solaris/Linux) using: "smbclient //mar-pepe/lrathbone -U lrathbone" ,I have no problem getting in. I was wondering if anyone co...

[fdo] Additions to "Registered Categories"
...categories currently available are a little lacking in variety. I think two more should be added: ShootingGame and DrivingGame. I'd like to use those in my .desktop files while maintaining standards compliance, so how could I go about proposing their addition to the list? Thanks. -- Logan Rathbone <logan.rathbone@utoronto.ca>

samba4 winbind desperation
Hi everyone, and especially the on-list plain English rfc2307 winbind advisers. In an effort to save the aforementioned a lot of time, energy and frustration, we have put together a check-list to which we can refer candidates on those rare occasions when they are having problems with winbind. We hope you like them and that they will serve us all to a greater or lesser degree.

I've setup my config files (ldap.conf, slapd.conf, smb.conf) as well as added some initial entries to the LDAP directory. I've been
