Wheezy Dovecot workarounds
...t at port 143, and openssl can't operate it at 993.
However, bizarrly, executing these same commands on a remote machine
into the original machine (including accessing the machine's Dovecot
from an email client) work perfectly.
WORKAROUND
To "solve" this problem, do the following raindance as root:
ifdown lo
ifup lo
After the raindance, local access to Dovecot works perfectly, and all
nmap commands perform as expected.

smbmount problem?
I have this:
mount -t smbfs -o username=rharris,rw,uid=rharris,gid=500,fmask=640,dmask=750 \
//fileserver.lsv.raindance.com/departments +/wmnt/fileserver/departments
(all on one line though, the backslash in for readability)
When I run that I get this:
INFO: Debug class all level = 2 (pid 24219 from pid 24219)
can't determine netmask for 127.
added interface ip=10.10.117.230 bcast=10.10.117.255 nmask=255.25...
