Filesystem labeling confusion or mess up
Hi, I do have an iscsi storage with two raidsets. I'm logged in to the target and get two devices: /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc. After formatting the devices with ext4 I realised, that I had used a wrong label, so I tried to relabel the devices. But now I'm confused: doing a e2label /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc returns always the same label name for...

Storage/SCSI Error on our CentOS server
...intermittent filesystem error, partition could not be mounted in read-write mode, unacceptable writing speed, etc ), especially when we start to 'write' on the storage. After a few check, we are suspecting either : 1) the storage unit (but the storage control panel did not report any disk/raidset failure) is failing or, 2) the SCSI host adapter is failing, or 3) the filesystem itself is corrupted (we did 'fsck.ext3 -v -f' but it turned out it did not find any errors) ..but we are not sure which one.We did received 'messages' which we never experience previously in our '...

SATA vs RAID5 vs VMware
Hello, I have strange behaviour on a server that I can't get a handle on. I have a reasonably powerful server running VMware server 1.0.4-56528. It has a RAID5 build with mdadm on 5 SATA drives. Masses of ram and 2 XEON CPUs. But it stutters. Example : fire up vi, press and keep finger on i. After filling 2-3 lines, the display is stopped for 2-12 seconds. Then they continue. This

Ghosting Linux Partitions.
I was thinking of putting a slightly bigger HD on my Linux server and would like to know the easiest way. I know that ghost works well on FAT32 partitions, but does it work on Ext3 partitions too? Id rather not reinstall if I don't have to, so any and all suggestions are appreciated. TIA Kev

/dev/sda
We're just using Linux software RAID for the first time - RAID1, and the other day, a drive failed. We have a clone machine to play with, so it's not that critical, but.... I partitioned a replacement drive. On the clone, I marked the RAID partitions on /dev/sda failed, and remove, and pulled the drive. After several iterations, I waited a minute or two, until all messages had stopped,

SuSE /var/ disk space
Hi all, I''m playing with Xen for the first time, and encounter problems when installing a client. We basically have limited space on the /var/ partition, and Xen seems to use this as temporary storage during installation. Is there anyway of configuring it to use some other location? Cheers, Dean. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year. Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!! Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost. Minimum requisites should be: - working well with Open Solaris ;-) -

40TB File System Recommendations
Hello All I have a brand spanking new 40TB Hardware Raid6 array to play around with. I am looking for recommendations for which filesystem to use. I am trying not to break this up into multiple file systems as we are going to use it for backups. Other factors is performance and reliability. CentOS 5.6 array is /dev/sdb So here is what I have tried so far reiserfs is limited to 16TB ext4

Can this be done?
I currently have a 7x1.5tb raidz1. I want to add "phase 2" which is another 7x1.5tb raidz1 Can I add the second phase to the first phase and basically have two raid5''s striped (in raid terms?) Yes, I probably should upgrade the zpool format too. Currently running snv_104. Also should upgrade to 110. If that is possible, would anyone happen to have the simple command lines to
