question on software raid-1
I have a system that is RAID -1 configured as
/dev/md0 is /dev/hda1 /dev/hdb1
/dev/md1 is /dev/hdb3 /dev/hdb3
it seems as though /dev/hda has failed....
I have another disk (identical model) that I can replace hda with.
I know about the commands fdisk to repartion and raidhotadd /dev/md0
/dev/hda1
and raidhotadd /dev/md1 /dev/hda3 (to be ran after the system boots).
BUT... how do I now get the system to boot since hda is not there to boot...
I can certainly execute the fdisk and raidhotadd after it boots... How
do I get it to boot.
The hardware is a D865 intel motherbo...

MD raid tools ... did i missed something?
...====================================================================
I need to add the 3rd partition, so I open documentation
http://www.centos.org/docs/4/html/rhel-isa-en-4/s1-storage-rhlspec.html#S2-STORAGE-RAID-DAY2DAY
(I know the RTFM ;-)
But in chapter 5.9.9.2.
they want tool caled "raidhotadd"
What was my wonder when it is not included in CentOS 4.3

raid array device partition missing
From looking at mdstat it appears I have a RAID partition missing.
There are NO errors in /var/log/messages about disk errors or anything.
What happened to my sda1??? I had a power outage last week.
Any ideas??? Jerry

PROBLEM:
Ext3 Journal oops & RAID-1 set losing sync.
(Sent to both EXT3 and Linux-RAID since both are in use and seem
possibly relevant)
I have had a number of problems maintaining a software RAID-1 set on an
IDE box I maintain; it seems that doing raidhotadd on the drive marked
as invalid works each time though. However, I've had both errors about
trying to read past the end of the disk/partition and at least one oops
relating to the ext3 journalling code. I'm not sure either is related
to the other, but not sure they're not either....

Debian Sarge Root Raid + LVM + XEN install guide (LONG)
...ab and mark sda as usable:
raiddev /dev/md0
raid-level 1
nr-raid-disks 2
persistent-superblock 1
chunk-size 8
device /dev/sda1
raid-disk 0
device /dev/sdb1
raid-disk 1
... etc. Now add the partitions on sda as members using raidhotadd:
# raidhotadd /dev/md0 /dev/sda1
Rinse and repeat for each partition, or use a tricky bash one liner :)
The mirror is now syncing each partition in sequence. You can check the
status of this process
by periodically cating /proc/mdstat.
Once each partition is synced your mirror is complete and...
