OT: RAID5, RAID50 and RAID60 performance??
We have several DELL servers with MD1000 connect to it. Server will install CENTOS 5.x X86_64 version. My questions are: 1. Which configuration have better performance RAID5, RAID50 or RAID60? 2. how much performance difference? ___________________________________________________ ??????? ? ???????????????? http://messenger.yahoo.com.tw/

RAID5 or RAID50 for database?
we have DELL 6800 server with 12 internal disks in it. O.S. is CENTOS 4.6 and SCSI control card is PERC 4e/di. We plan to configure 4 disks (5,8,9,10) as RAID5 or RAID50. This logical volume will be use as file systems and store database backup files. Can anyone tell me which one is better on performance? Thanks. ?????????Yahoo!??????2.0????????????? - ????? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists....

3ware disk failure -> hang
I've got an i386 server running centos 4.2 with 3 3ware controllers in it -- an 8006-2 for the system disks and 2 7500-8s. On the 7500s, I'm running an all software RAID50. This morning I came in to find the system hung. Turns out a disk went overnight on one of the 7500s, and rather than a graceful failover I got this: Jan 6 01:03:58 $SERVER kernel: 3w-xxxx: scsi2: Command failed: status = 0xc7,flags = 0x40, unit #3. performace of disks
Hello, Queries: 1 - what is the best RAID (0,1,5,10,50) for server running very, very VM instances ??? 2 - and config of stripes/element sizes (32, 64, 128, 256, etc, KB) ?? 3 - in the configuration of VM, exit one difference in performance between image file (disk:/) or LVM partition (phy:/) ??? any URL or docs for read about this theme ? mmm.. it is all for moment. thanks -- -- Victor

SATA vs. SAS
I have 8 WD SATA HDD with raid ready (3mbps) hard disks on a 8 port 3ware controller.(on raid 5.) Does anyone have a comparison on SATA raid and SAS raid disk. As you know SAS disk are very expensive and I would like to know from experts in the list who could suggest which of the following would be the best. Option 1) 2 servers each having 2.0TB raid disk with SAS drives, 2GB ram and standard

best disk configuration
I have 12 750GB drive appliance from HP. I was wondering what is the best disk configuration? I suppose a large RAID5 would be bad since rebuilding would take too long. What do you recommend? ZFS bechmarks w/8 disk raid - Quirky results, any thoughts?
Hi All, I''ve just built an 8 disk zfs storage box, and I''m in the testing phase before I put it into production. I''ve run into some unusual results, and I was hoping the community could offer some suggestions. I''ve bascially made the switch to Solaris on the promises of ZFS alone (yes I''m that excited about it!), so naturally I''m looking

Aoe or iScsi???
Hi people... Here we use Xen 4 with Debian Lenny... We''re using kernel 2.6.31.13 pvops... As a storage system, we use AoE devices... So, we installed VM''s on AoE partition... The "NAS" server is a Intel based baremetal with SATA hard disc... However, sometime I feeling that VM''s is so slow... Also, all VM has GPLPV drivers installed... So, I am thing about

RAID[56] status
If we''ve abandoned the idea of putting the number of redundant blocks into the top bits of the type bitmask (and I hope we have), then we''re fairly much there. Current code is at: git://, http://git.infradead.org/users/dwmw2/btrfs-raid56.git git://, http://git.infradead.org/users/dwmw2/btrfs-progs-raid56.git We have recovery working, as well as both full-stripe writes

...d1. I did RAID10 in the past but don't do it now. If you do large linear read/writes, RAID10 may perform better, if you have lots of independent and random read/writes, RAID1 may perform better. It really depends a lot on how the disk are used. > > Have you tried other type of raid like RAID50 or RAID60? ZFS on a 11TB HW RAID-5 controller
Hello all, I am a complete newbie to OpenSolaris, and must to setup a ZFS NAS. I do have linux experience, but have never used ZFS. I have tried to install OpenSolaris Developer 134 on a 11TB HW RAID-5 virtual disk, but after the installation I can only use one 2TB disk, and I cannot partition the rest. I realize that maximum partition size is 2TB, but I guess the rest must be usable. For

RAID10
Hi All, I am looking at ZFS and I get that they call it RAIDZ which is similar to RAID 5, but what about RAID 10? Isn''t a RAID 10 setup better for data protection? So if I have 8 x 1.5tb drives, wouldn''t I: - mirror drive 1 and 5 - mirror drive 2 and 6 - mirror drive 3 and 7 - mirror drive 4 and 8 Then stripe 1,2,3,4 Then stripe 5,6,7,8 How does one do this with ZFS?

How many guests
Hi Everyone, I have a Dell R210 server which has a Xeon X3430 Quad Core CPU (2.4Ghz x 4) with 8GB of RAM. I intend to use the H200 controller in a RAID1 setup How many VMs do you think I''d be able to run on this machine? Is 20 pushing it? I''d say most (if not all) guests would be in PV mode.
