RAID 5 vs. RAID 10
Hi,
I am looking into purchasing a new server. This server will be
mission-critical.
I have read and somewhat understood the theories behind RAIDs 0, 1, 5, 10 &
JBOD. However, I would like to get some feedback from those who have
experience in implementing and recovering from a HDD failure using RAID.
Hardware specs include:-
Dual Xeon 3.2 GHz
2 GB RAM
I would like to implement hardware RAID but am unsure as to which would be
most...

CentOS 6.6 - reshape of RAID 6 is stucked
Hello
I have a CentOS 6.6 Server with 13 disks in a RAID 6. Some weeks ago, i upgraded it to 17 disks, two of them configured as spare. The reshape worked like normal in the beginning. But at 69% it stopped.

Moving from RAID 0 to LVM RAID?
So I've learned a valuable RAID 0 lesson, and it fortunately was not a major
catastrophy. I got lucky, and had a workable-enough backup on tape to make the
user who needed some data happy.
Now, from the OS side, LVM is an option. Say the RAID controller only allows
hardware striping or mirroring for logical volumes, but I...

Software RAID complete drives or individual partitions
I have been reading about software raid. I configured my first software raid system about a month ago.
I have 4 500 Gig drives configured in RAID 5 configuration with a total of 1.5TB.
Currently I configured the complete individual drivers as software raid, then created a /dev/md0 with the drives
I then created a /file_storage partiti...

error in kickstart file for raid1 setup
Hello,
I'm trying to do a kickstart install of centos5. I'm pulling it off a
network server and i'm getting an error, in the parsing of the file. It
refers to line 31, i'm not going to show the complete file, but here is the
indicated line:
raid swap --fstype swap --level=RAID1 raid.4 raid.7
and the raid lines:
part raid.7 --size=512 --ondisk=hdb
part raid.4 --size=512 --ondisk=hda
My parse error message is:
"option --device is required"
The raid lines indicate which drive to work on, i'm not seeing the issue.
Any help...

raid 5 install
Hello list.
The next days we are going to install Centos 7 on a new server, with
4*3Tb sata hdd as raid-5. We will use the graphical interface to install
and set up raid.
Do I have to consider anything before installation, because the disks
are very large?
Does the graphical use the parted to set/format the raid?
I hope the above make sense.
Thank you in advance.

...home network). It will be used to store files,

best option for the file and print serving ?
The mother board has 2 X IDE channels, 2 X IDE channels with raid and 2 X SATA
raid channels, that's up to 10 hard drive devices. The IDE raid chip is a
GigaRaid IT8212F chipset. It supports raid 0 or raid 1 and raid 0 + 1 and
JBOD. The SATA raid is a Silicon Image Sil3512. It supports Raid 0 or 1.
Would I get better speed performance using the chips to m...

kickstart raid disk partitioning
Hello.
A couple of years ago I installed two file-servers
using kickstart. The server has two 1TB sata disks
with two software raid1 partitions as follows:
# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid1]
md1 : active raid1 sdb4[1] sda4[0]
933448704 blocks [2/2] [UU]
md0 : active raid1 sdb1[1] sda2[2](F)
40957568 blocks [2/1] [_U]
Now the drives are starting to be failing and next week I'll
backup /homes, reinsta...

RAIDs and JBOD?
Hey Guys,
I have some questions?regarding?a new home server I am going to build

planning everything and this is the penultimate?hurdle), I will be
creating a software RAID...
Lets say I have three drives "knocking" around which are all 1TB SATA
II drives but each made by a different manufacturer. I am going to
guess that these couldn't be used in a RAID 5? Or could they?
However could a similar result of 2TBs of data with redundancy be
achieved with J...

4.4/64-bit Supermicro/ Nvidia Sata RAID Driver
Hi,
I am installing Centos ServerCD 4.4 64-bit on a new Supermicro board,
the RAID BIOS looks fine, RAID 5, all 4 Seagate ES 250 GB drives show up
as a single array in the RAID BIOS tool, and the OS install phase
completes without a hitch.
One thing I noticed was that the OS was loading the sata_nv driver and
picking up the 4 Sata drives instead of the large RAID5 volume, it...

Centos and Software RAID
I purchased an Intel D945GNT motherboard and it comes in the BIOS with
an option to create a RAID 0 or RAID 1 volumes using my existing two
SATA disks. However when installing Centos 4.3 x86_64 I see the the
installer recognices the two drives and does not "see" the RAID 0.
Is that ok?
Should I disable the RAID in the BIOS and then go for a LVM+RAID 0
setup in the installer ?
Since it...
