the sample() function
hello R-Wizards!!!!! again i'm invoking your presence!! since all the fuss about the paradoxes on a computer algorithm generating "caos" or un-determinancy, i recently grew quite curious about the mechanism underlying the procedure of NUMBER RADOMIZATION. could anyone of you, masters, attach me the algorithm (or source code? is it right?) behind the *sample()* function, so i can inspect in detail the mechanism of this so gossiped "radomization"? thank you, sincerely federico bonofiglio, student of statistics at milano bicocca un...

windowing strategies
Hello to everybody, Does anyone has implemented a function for evaluating models using windowing strategies, such as growing window or sliding window ones? The aim is to evaluate regression models on a time series data. I do not use cross-validation once data sorted in a radom way does not make sense when evaluating time series. Thanks Joao Moreira

AGI global style variables
I have had some radom occurances of someone calling in, and for whatever reason the person is getting dumped into the section of the lcr.agi file that output the message of "it is necessary to dial x". I was curious, does any one know about a variable that might be available in the AGI that would tell me w...

SATA
Has anyone had any problems with SATA, either on board or 3rd party setup? I've currently got a problem where an AMD non SATA FC2 system is working fine but an Intel system with a 3Ware SATA card and FC3 is radomly not syncing with the ISDN30. It allows and receives calls but at random intervals drops them. Regards Lee -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Filtering a data frame using a string for colum header
Hi all, I was just radomly playing with R and got the following error when trying to filter a data frame using a string: > Angel <- c(7,8,6,9,10) > Buffy <- c(8,9,4,9,10) > Firefly <- c(9,9,10,10,10) > DrHorrible <- c(10,9,9,10,10) > my.df <- data.frame(Angel, Buffy, Firefly, DrHorrible) >...

Extremely slow during browsing some directories
...h fedora3( version 3.0.10-1.fc3). I use the SHARE security level to make things easier. Everything goes fine so far, except that for some windows user, some times, on browsing some directories, it takes extremely long time to display the folders/files list. This seems weird because it happened radomly: sometimes for the same user, same machine and browse same directory, it works quickly, but sometimes it take about a minute to get the response from server. What's the possibilities for this issue? Deperately need help. My /etc/smb.conf : [global] # workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or Workgr...

restricted bootstrap
...' function to values in the distance matrix. My end goal is to randomly sample M thousand rows of data N thousand times calculating linear regression coefficients for each sample but am stuck on taking the initial sample. I believe I can figure out the rest. Example Question I would like to radomly sample 3 rows further but withe the restriction that they are greater than 100m apart example data: main data: y<- c(1, 2, 9, 5, 6) x<-c( 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) z<-c(2, 4, 6, 8, 10) a<-c(3, 9, 6, 4 ,4) maindata<-cbind(y, x, z, a) y x x a [1,] 1 1 1 3 [2,] 2 3 3 9 [3,] 9 5 5 6 [4,]...

How to best start from scratch implementing a ERM diagram?
...the ERM diagram with about 30 tables. There are quite some tables with foreign keys so I''m not sure how to start creating the controllers/models. How should I start creating controllers/models? Should I first create all tables without foreign key? Should I just start somewhere and add them radomly? I''m also not sure which table should become a controller and which one only a model. How should I decide that? If there''s no real ''rule'' to decide this... could I just create all of them as a model and if I need one to be a controller I just create the same o...

Steam Apps freezing
I'm using wine to run Steam based games like Counterstrike and Day of Defeat. This generally works well but from time to time the games radomly freeze(about every hour or so). To get further information I made an error.log(see below) and googled the error. I found quite some information but no way to solve the problem. Any ideas, assumptions...? ##Information on the system## Linux 2.6.17-10-generic, Ubuntu 6.10, wine-0.9.28, ATI Radeo...

Red X and guest user message in logs
Hello, I have a Debian Sarge machine running Samba 3.0.14a as PDC and file server. Everything runs smoothly, except for a random problem: users (on Win2000Pro clients) are often seeing a red cross on the main network share, as if it was disconnected. This red X seems to come and go at random. The red cross would not be a big issue itself, but it has an annoying consequence: when it appears,

"Unable to find path from G729A to ULAW" on Sipphone.com
I seem to be having a problem with transcoding and/or agreeing on a valid codec. I am running a new image pulled from CVS at 1:30 PM CST. The issue occurs when I try to make a call to a toll-free number over sipphone.com. Here's what I see in the console: NOTICE[1259545280]: File channel.c, Line 1478 (ast_set_read_format): Unable to find a path from G729A to ULAW NOTICE[1259545280]: File

asterisk and iptables
Hi, I have a problem with asterisks on Linux. Looks like it is a iptables problem. My external client (eyebeam, on a different computer) cannot register to the asterisk server, but the asterisk server itself *looks* working. If I dial one of the incoming phone numbers for the server, I can see the call arriving in Asterisk (using asterisk -r). I tried nmap on my server, and this is the result:

potential wiki on encryption
Hello all, I posted the whole disk encryption instructions in the forum that has been briefly discussed on the list. I joined the list per Ned's post on the thread. http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&topic_id=15923&forum=42 I have a couple of questions about the process of creating a wiki. 1. How does the peer-review process work? 2. Is there a place

Guys, apache cpus usage is hitting 100% sometimes ( to such an extent that its very noticeable) on a box with just 8 users or so. i m getting this when i run 'top'.
