Tripp lite SMART1000LCD
...om version 2.2.0 from another Mandriva system and everything works fine now. Its not permissions or other configuration stuff I believe. I can see from the changelog that changes where made to tripplite stuff from 2.2.0 to 2.2.1, maybe something went bad.
