.Rprofile is being executed twice
...line:
print("starting .Rprofile...")
When I start R, I see:
[1] "starting .Rprofile..."
[1] "starting .Rprofile..."
This seems like the obverse of the following FAQ:
http://cran.r-project.org/doc/FAQ/R-FAQ.html#Why-did-my-_002eRprofile-stop-working-when-I-updated-R_003f
But in my case .Rprofile is working, just working twice as much as it
should.
Even if there is nothing in my .Rprofile except that print() statement,
it still executes twice.
What could be causing this?
Thanks

Either "is" is missing ("but it is indicated") or "it" should be replaced by "is" ("but is indicated") if the subject is omitted.

typo in R FAQ: sources.list entry for debian 'stable' backports
The R FAQ at
http://cran.r-project.org/doc/FAQ/R-FAQ.html#Are-there-Unix-binaries-for-R_003f
advises the use of the following /etc/apt/sources.list entry
deb http://cran.R-project.org/bin/linux/debian stable
.
I think that this is missing a forward slash after the word 'stable'.

Which package to install?
Hi,
I'm wanting to install R onto my webspace. My ISP uses CentOS release 4.6
and I'd like to know which one of the available R packages for Linux would
be appropriate.
Thanks.

upgraging R from 2.9.0 to 2.9.1
I am still running 2.9.0 and came across a package that was built with 2.9.1. I got a warning upon loading the package.
I tried to launch a function from such a package. It seems to hang up. I can't believe it takes forever.
I am resolved to upgrade my R version to the newest one. But on a Windows box I do not know how to unistall the current version
in advance of installing the new one.

But there is no make file mentioned in the INSTALL file.
Usually this kind of information is provided in the README file.
I am a donor to the R Foundation.
Ubuntu uses the Synaptic. It only installs the R version 2.9.0
So, I have to compile R-2.10.1 from the

R- License
Hello. We are trying to install R on our network, and I wanted to ask if
there is a user license agreement. I will be grateful if somebody can send
me a link to it; if one exists.
Thank you very much

R, S, S-Plus, whence comes thy name?
I appeal to those entrusted with the keeping of the R flame, the S flame, and the S-Plus flame to relate a bit of history. How did S, S-Plus, and R get their names? Going from S to S-Plus appears clear, a commercial company purchased rights to S, developed a product that they wanted to indicate was related to S, but was more fully developed. This leaves me with only a rumor how S got its original

How to install R 2.2.0 Debian 'unstable' package in otherwise 'sarge' system
I would like to install the latest version of R (the statistical computing
software). This is package r-base version 2.2.0 and is in the debian
'unstable' repository. Otherwise my system has 'sarge' packages, including
r-base 2.1.0. What is the best way to do this? If I don't want to upgrade
to unstable, must I compile R myself, or is there some way to install this
