Dell R320 server
Is there a way on Dell R320 (two power supplies and hardware RAID-1) on
centos
to get a message that a power supply is failing or that one of the
hardware RAID disks is failing?
Sure there is the front panel - but no-one is there ...
Is that reported to linux/centos some way?
This is my first R320.
Thanks,
Jerry

slow bootloader on Dell R320
Hi all !
Thanks for the very good support of Dell R320 hardware, perc H310 is
well supported, BCM5720 seems to work correctly and performances are
great.
The only problem i have found is very strange. The FreeBSD bootloader
take many times to load, 30sec-2minutes to boot the kernel and show the
bootloader menu. After that, the system boots properly, at...

CentOS 6 and an SAS drive, hardware
This is... odd. Got a 6.8 box, a Dell R320 lspci tells me
01:00.0 RAID bus controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic MegaRAID SAS 2008
[Falcon] (rev 03)
so it *should* accept an SAS drive. I've got a Cheetah that's a few years
old, and having pulled it out of another server (in the datecenter), I put
it in this box to zero it out for re...

Dell portability
Howdy,
I built an LXC container with an "image" of asterisk 11.18 precompiled
and installed. It runs fine on the dev platform, which is a Dell R320
running Ubuntu 14.04LTS. I shutdown the container, tarred it up, and
untarred on a Dell PE1850, also running Ubuntu 14.04LTS. The container
itself is Ubuntu 14.04LTS. Both platforms as far as I know are amd64.
The container boots fine on the 1850, but trying to run asterisk
segfaults. The...

dimensioning
I have been trying to get a feel for scaling or dimensioning using asterisk
11.
if I desire to use something like a dell r320, hardware RAID, 2G E5-2420,
4G RAM
and only SIP trunking using gsm (least bandwidth and no transcoding)
how many calls "out" can I expect to make at one time and asterisk still
be OK and responsive?
Thanks,
Jerry

Dimensioning asterisk 11
I will be using a dell R320 Xeon E5-2420 2G and 4G RAM.
also using a SIP trunk with ulaw/alaw codec.
How many calls could I expect to make at the same time?
no transcoding or anything. Just call a number and play a gsm file.
Thanks,
Jerry

test, and H/W
...ue you might
want to be aware of, those with not brand new hardware. We've got a few
Dell PE R415s. A 2TB b/u drive on one was getting full, so I went to
replace it with a 3TB drive (a WD Red, not that it matters.) We got the
system in '11.
I built the drive - a GPT, 1 3TB partition, on an R320, from '12.
smartctl understood it perfectly well. Anything else, not so much. parted
*crashed* When I managed to force it to see it without crashing - I think
I had to create a new GPT, it only saw 2199G. Put the drive back on the
other box, parted complained that the "backup block"...

What is the "not supported" hardware?
When the installer complains that it has detected unsupported hardware,
is there any way to tell just what it didn't like? Following the URL in
the message just ends up at the RHEL Hardware Certification page, which
isn't much help. The installer seemed quite willing to continue with
the installation, and poking around from the shell VT I didn't find
anything that didn't seem to

tcpdump loses lots of packets
Hi folks,
I've got a Dell R320 running CentOS 7, and a 10G NIC. I'm running a DNS
server on it, for testing. As part of my testing, I'm attempting to
capture all the DNS queries arriving on the server, using tcpdump.
However, tcpdump's performance is abysmal, and it loses lots of the
packets. Here's the output wh...
