random number generator: same seed used in different sessions
I did several simulation sessions and the result turned out to be a surprise. After some investigation, I found that different R sessions of the program used the same seed. Simply, in R210, if I start R and type rnorm(1), I always get the same random number. This is contradictary to what is in the R document Initially, there is no seed; a new one is created from the current time when one is required. Hence, different sessions will give different simulation results, by d...

Centos6.4 routing problem
dear All, I'm facing this routing problem, the setup is actualy part of ltsp, but I think this problem is Centos-specific. The server is a Dell Poweredge R210. The install is standard 6.4, updated. I have one nic facing the public internet: vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-em1 DEVICE=em1 BOOTPROTO=none HWADDR=d4:ae:52:c1:28:2b NM_CONTROLLED=no ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet UUID="cdfe1d58-c56c-47fc-8a93-5df2e168d176" IPV6INIT=no USERCTL=no...

build.pl in building library with Rtools211
Dear all, As I couldn't find any thread on the internet I hope the help-list might help me out. I've tried to update Rtools from R210 used in combination with R2.9.1 to R211 in combination with R2.11.1. However, I do not succeed. I have R2.11.1 running, as well as Inno Setup 5, HTML help and MikTex. A version of Perl is installed too. Environment variable paths are set to link to these directories too. However, when I try to bu...

How many guests
Hi Everyone, I have a Dell R210 server which has a Xeon X3430 Quad Core CPU (2.4Ghz x 4) with 8GB of RAM. I intend to use the H200 controller in a RAID1 setup How many VMs do you think I''d be able to run on this machine? Is 20 pushing it? I''d say most (if not all) guests would be in PV mode. Thanks _______...

...at/CentOS virtualization and it meets my needs very well for general testing/development, email server, web server kind of stuff.? I also use this setup along with spice to run test systems with various graphic GUI's.? I would not say that my virt servers are very heavily loaded.? I have a Dell R210 running CentOS6 KVM/Qemu and a Dell XPS 9360 running Ubuntu 18.04 with kvm/qemu. If you prefer fancy mangement GUI's over writing scripts and editing config files, vmware might be better for you. kvm/qemu does include virt-manager which is a fairly simply GUI to create and manage VM's, but...

Samba embedded device?
..." for home use, but compact PC cases with hotswap bays are absurdly expensive; even more if you want something like ECC on a passively cooled ITX board. And trying to get warranty (or even spare parts) after more than a year or two is downright impossible. At work we use Dell's PowerEdge R210 servers. Comparably cheap for rack servers (?if you fit your own HDDs/RAM), and low power consumption. So far I can't complain, although they're barely faster than Optiplexes, and harder to repair if you want to do it on your own instead of relying on Dell's support. > Still, thanks...

iommu=soft for Broadcom NICs PCI-passthru
Hi, My environment is as below: Hardware: Dell R210 NICs: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCN5709/5716 (w/o FLR) Xen: xen 4.1.2 Kernel: 3.6.32.57 (final version of xen community) Distribution: Centos 6.2 (upgraded to above kernel) When I added iommu=soft to domU kernel boot line, the PCI passthru-ed NICs can be UP and RUNNING. Otherwise, omit iommu=soft opti...

RSpec and script/console??
I am a rSpec newbie. When learning ruby and rails, I found the console to be a really helpful tool. But I haven''t been able to figure out how to drive RSpec from the console. Is using rSpec with the Console even a valid approach? Does anyone else use rSpec from the console?? - Andy -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Centos 7.5 on Vmware
Everyone, I am in the initial study phase of putting together a larger virtual server while using Centos 7.5 as the operating system of choice for the ?individual virtual machines. How do you all like VMware for this, or what other software allows for the development of virtural servers that use Centos 7.5 Thanks ahead of time for giving me a head start with your experiences!!!! --? Hi there, I'm very interested in oVirt as a management interface for a VM setup we're building, however it seems as though there isn't much info on the product roadmap or active development. I'm wondering if anyone could point me to more information on the roadmap or commit activity on the project? Regards, Anthony -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

Dedicated Firewall/Router
Hi All, I want to build a dedicated firewall/router as I am launching a NPO and I can host this in my garage. (Comcast offered me a 100 x 20 circuit for $99/mo with 5 statics) I used to run Untangle, but as of version 9, you are forced to use their build in protocol policies versus the firewalling I am used to (Deny All and then opening holes for specific IP's, etc). There are so many

is Intel VT-d "really" necessary?
Hi all, I'm just curios and would like some input from the community on this one. We're busy budgeting for a couple of new servers and I thought it would be good to try out the Core i7 CPU's, but see the majority of them don't offer VT-d, but just VT-x. Looking at the LGA1366 range, only the "Intel lga1366 i7 980XE" (from the list of what our suppliers stock) have VT-d,

Strange reboot since 9.1
Hello, Since FreeBSD 9.1 I have strange problems with the distribution. Some servers are rebooting without any kernel panic, instanly. First i thought it's a problem with my KVM system, but one of my FreeBSD under a Dell R210 have the same problem. The servers concerned are now: - Monitoring server - LDAP test server - Some other servers, randomly (not in production). First i thought it's a problem with my FreeBSD install, then i download another time the ISO but the problem was already here. After i try another thi...

Syslinux 3.85 chain.c32 problem solved
Thanks to debugging information from Thomas Mieslinger, I have root-caused the failure of chain.c32 in Syslinux 3.85. I have put out Syslinux 3.86-pre1 and Syslinux 4.00-pre33 which fix the problem. I expect to release a Syslinux 3.86 relatively shortly (ideally in the next two weeks), with bug fixes only. I would like to figure out if there are other bug fixes we can get in in reasonable time,
