For reference, mine has:

And the environment variable $SHELL is /bin/mksh (so a full

Question about stderr output containing carriage return External
...de, \n is not the line separator
but \x0D\x0A is: \x0D moves the cursor to the beginning of the
line and \x0A moves it to one line below but does not change
the horizontal position.
So it?s a requirement when in raw mode and doesn?t hurt in
cooked mode.

Question about stderr output containing carriage return External
Hi Josh,
it's been around for a while:
https://github.com/openbsd/src/commit/8747197a4a479407167d01f46017ddb99cc3cae2
Though the commit doesn't say why it needs the \r.
Cheers,
Marian

Just use a real syslogd (inetutils-syslogd is nice, for example,
and rsyslogd and syslog-ng both have fans), (importantly) without
message routing through systemd-journald.

If they get under attack, they?d better do. And if you?re ignoring
a known bottleneck, the results will probably not be very useful?
besides, not everyone is systemd-infested.

An Analysis of the DHEat DoS Against SSH in Cloud Environments
I'd like to withdraw the last set of metrics I reported. I couldn't
reproduce some of them, and I suspect I made a mistake during testing.
Being more careful this time, I set up another fully updated Ubuntu
24.04 VM with 4 vCPUs running openssh-SNAP-20240628.tar.gz with all
defaults unchanged.
When running using "ssh-audit.py --conn-rate-test=16 target_host", the
system idle

Yes, but if the reason behaviour under DoS is that logging
is too slow and/or uses too much CPU, the fix is not to
remove logging in the default configuration.

This isn't a TTY flag, it's a terminal mode enabled via an escape
sequence, there's actually multiple modes involved (CSI u as in the
subject), but xterm also supports "modifyOtherKeys" and Vim for
example will pick depending what the terminal reports

Can we reset CSI u mode on client disconnect? via
ssh already restores all TTY flags on exit:
https://github.com/openssh/openssh-portable/blob/V_9_8_P1/sshtty.c#L56-L78
It's possible there are some exit cases that are not hitting the
leave_raw_mode(), but if so then they aren't obvious.

I managed to do some limited testing with a local VM, and the results
are... interesting.
I installed openssh-SNAP-20240626.tar.gz on a fresh and fully-updated
Ubuntu Linux 24.04 LTS VM with 1 vCPU.

Or you could put the unset into .ssh/rc, or if you use
a key to connect from JuiceSSH to machine1 you could add
the restrict keyword to the corresponding authorised_keys
