convert Factor as numeric
Dear group, I know this issue has been already covered, and before you reply I must say I have read the R-FAQ and search the mailing list archive. I still can't manage to change my factor to numeric as I couldn't find any clear answer. Here is my df : Pose1 <- structure(list(DESCRIPTION = structure(c(1L, 2L, 3L, 4L, 5L, 8L), .Label = c(" SUGAR NO.11 May/10 ", "COTTON

building a phone
...lly-adaptable phone? Here are some of my thoughts. This is not anything I plan to do soon (if at all), but I really find it strange that there aren't such phones already. == Small Quantities: When you look at such systems it becomes aparant that you can get much nicer prices if you buy large quanities. But this is something that will be a problem. Not only for prototying. The fact that you're limited to a strict hardware setting is very limiting. No mixing and matching like in a standard PC. I'm not exactly sure how to overcome that. == Platforms: There are many embedded platforms now...

AW: Reading huge chunks of data from MySQL into Windows R
In my (limited) experience R is more powerful concerning data manipulation. An example: I have a vector holding a user id. Some user ids can appear more than once. Doing SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT userid) on MySQL will take approx. 15 min. Doing length(unique(userid)) will take (almost) no time... So I think the other way round will serve best: Do everything in R and avoid using SQL on the database...

Mock with an attributes that has state
I''m developing a rails application. I have an Order model that has_many OrderItems. I mocked the OrderItem model in my Order specs using mock_model. I thought I should focus my specs on each model and always mock associated models. In my Order model I need a way to merge OrderItems which have the same cost and same product_id. That I can spec. The other thing this merge helper

CentOS on Compaq Proliant Rackmount Servers
Greetings, Can anyone relate experience(s) installing CentOS on Compaq rack mount servers units please? Easy no problem, easy some issues, or ghastly do not do it under any circumstances... ;) Basically, I'm looking at some used/refurb dual PIII units and will run RAID on Compaq built in SCSI or is it easy to pop in some 3ware SATA in them? Let me know in terms of CentOS 3 and/or 4 please.

Does "sink" stand for anything?
Hello Everyone,   Learning about R and its wonderful array of functions. If it's not obvious, I usually try to find out what a function stands for. I think this helps me remember better.   One function that has me stumped is "sink." Can anyone tell me if this stands for something?   Thanks,   Paul         __________________________________________________ [[alternative HTML
