StorNext CVFS
Morning All! Anyone ever tried exporting a StorNext CVFS filesystem from a Linux box??? I?ve got this Samba server (3.5.6) running on CentOS 5.4 and it?s working fine, exporting ext3, nfs and an IBM GPFS filesystem just fine. So I know Samba is good an my configuration is working. I tried to add the exportation of a StorNext CVFS volume and that doesn?t work. All the other volumes still work

Project Proposal: SAM-QFS
In the last 4 years of using SAM-FS/QFS I have fallen in love with this product. I have tried earlier to ask Sun to incorporate features into this product but in vain. Do you think the following is worth exploring and in-corporating: 1. Unlike ZFS SAM-FS/QFS File system need "compression" feature turned on with ''...

Generating QFs from same sample
Dear All I am kind of stuck up with a code a part of which seems to be causing a problem, or at least I think so. May be the community can help me. It’s simple but I suppose I am missing something. I generate a data matrix X, say of order n*p, where n represents independent row-vectors and p correlated col vectors. Let the row representation be X = (X’_1, . . ., X’_n)’. I generate the

sam-fs on zfs-pool
Hi list, I''ve did some tests and run into a very strange situation.. I created a zvol using "zfs create -V" and initialize an sam-filesystem on this zvol. After that I restored some testdata using a dump from another system. So far so good. After some big troubles I found out that releasing files in the sam-filesystem doesn''t create space on the underlying zvol.

Lustre Solution Delivery
What is the process for integrating a Lustre+SAMFS solution into an existing customer environment. The plan is to have CRS build the Lustre component, but Lustre and SAMFS will need to configured and integrated into the customer computing environment. I am very familiar with the SAMFS integration, but not Lustre integration. Do we have resources in PS to provide the integration? Is this

statvfs change
An issue was found with the netBeans installer where the installation was failing on a large ZFS filesystem. This resulted in CR 6560644 (zfs statvfs f_frsize needs work). The issue is that large filesystems can cause EOVERFLOW on statvfs() calls. This behavior is documented in the statvfs(2) man page, but I think we can do better. The problem was initially reported against ZFS, and my first fix

Customer questions
A few questions: 1. How does ZFS compare to Luster? 2. Is ZFS compatible with Veritas Netbackup Suite? 3. Does ZFS support bare metal restore (BMR)? Pointers welcome!! dfree causing write access problems
...nabled the clients get 1MB reported as the size of the share and when a client tries to right to the system they get told that the filesystem is full. The script output has been tested throughly and reports: <quoted size><space><free> system: Solaris 10 base filesystem: SAM QFS 4.5 with quotas enabled clients: variety, mostly Macs (Tiger and Leopard), some Windows and Linux The idea is to use dfree to fake disk sizes so that it reports the quota size for a project and the amount that is still free rather than the base system size. This is very important to us as w...

ZFS Usage in Warehousing (lengthy intro)
...rtant factor. Read-to-Write ratio is almost 20:1. We now want to consolidate our database servers (Oracle, btw.) to a pair of x4600 systems running Solaris 10 (which we''ve already tested in a benchmark setup). The whole system was still I/O-bound, even though the backend (3510, 12x146GB, QFS, RAID10) delivered a sustained data rate of 250-300MB/sec. I''d like to target a sequential read performance of 500++MB/sec while reading from the db on multiple tablespaces. We''re experiencing massive data volume growth of about 100% per year and are therefore looking both for...

Jeremy''s git tags
Hi Everyone, git noob. simple question, how do i get a previous release from jeremy''s git repository? Right now, I can get the latest (2.6.32.9) by doing the following: git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jeremy/xen.git linux-2.6-xen $ cd linux-2.6-xen $ git pull I tried doing a "git tag -l" when in linux-2.6-xen directory, but that did not print the tag

ZFS and HSM
I said I had several questions to start threads on.... What about ZFS and various HSM solutions? Do any of them already work with ZFS? Are any going to? It seems like HSM solutions that access things at a file level would have little trouble integrating with ZFS. But ones that work at a block level would have a harder time. On that same thread, what about support for DMAPI within ZFS?

Hierarchial storage management or automated archival to tape
Hi list! While regular backup solutions like amanda or bacula are very good at their job, ie keeping point2point copies of the files currently on disk, I find them less suited for archiving - having unused files move to tape in duplo and stay there until requested. I've even read of multi-tier solutions - move to slower disks after a week and further on to tape after a month. Does anyone

ZFS layout on hardware RAID-5?
...olving SATA drives). Our pressing question is how to configure a shelf of 15 400GB SATA drives, with the idea that we may add another such shelf within a year. Prior to ZFS, we likely would''ve setup two 6D+1P RAID-5 groups on that shelf, leaving a single hot-spare, and applied UFS or SAM-QFS filesystems onto hardware LUN''s sliced out of those grous. The use of two smaller RAID-groups seems advisable given the likely large reconstruct time on these 400GB 7200RPM drives. Some options we''re considering with ZFS are: (0) One 13D+1P h/w RAID-5 group, one hot-spare, conf...

Connecting Solaris 10 + samba + Mac OS X Open Directory
...ed samba to tackle a task. It is complicated by multi-vendor infrastructure. I am hoping that someone here has the knowledge and experience to say: "been there, done that...here is how..." To give some background to the architecture (slightly exotic)... 1. We run a large Sun SAM-FS/QFS installation (a high end hierarchical storage management filesystem technology, for those that don't know) 2. Our clients [primarily Mac OS X 10.5 clients, but a few sparse Windows XP/Vista clients also] mainly leverage NFS transports off a fileservice head to get "at" their dat...

understanding zfs/thunoer "bottlenecks"?
Currently I''m trying to figure out the best zfs layout for a thumper wrt. to read AND write performance. I did some simple mkfile 512G tests and found out, that per average ~ 500 MB/s seems to be the maximum on can reach (tried initial default setup, all 46 HDDs as R0, etc.). According to http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/ArchitectureWP_062806.pdf I would
