simple NFSv4 setup
I'm trying to setup a simple NFSv4 mount between two x86_64 hosts. On the server, I have this in /etc/exports: /export $CLIENT(ro,fsid=0) /export/qb3 $CLIENT(rw,nohide) ON $CLIENT, I mount via: mount -t nfs4 $SERVER:/qb3 /usr/local/sge62/qb3 However: $ touch /usr/local/sge62/qb3/foo touch: cannot touch `/usr/local/sge62/qb3/foo': Read-only file system I'd really rather not export the pseudo-root read-write, so how do I get this...

Puppet Windows: test if non-MSI package already installed
Hello Puppet Cohorts, I wish to install programs on Windows that do not use the MSI installer. After finding a guide on-line for silencing most installers (http://unattended.sourceforge.net/installers.php) I feel confident I can write a short script for Puppet to "exec" on my hosts to silently install most of what I need. What I can''t decide on a "best" way to test

3ware 9650 issues
...as the whole system. I'm running the latest firmware and drivers from 3ware. Have other folks had good luck with this card? What sorts of configs are you running? I'm in the position of needing more storage, and I'm a bit gun shy on 3ware at the moment... -- Joshua Baker-LePain QB3 Shared Cluster Sysadmin UCSF

Chipset support for 6750 Intel CPUs
Howdy, We've noticed that the new chipsets required for the **50 series of intel processors is not supported in CentOS 5. We've tried the DG31 board which (realtek nic unsupported) DG33 no support for disk controller or NICs. We also tried the dx38bt and there was no support. Fedora 8 apparently works great with all of the boards we tried. My question is, will there these boards not be

R (statistics package) on CentOS-5 ?
Dear all, the statistics package R (www.r-project.org) was available for CentOS-4, but I need it for CentOS-5 (64bit). RPMforge has R-2.5.1 for CentOS-4, so I thought I'd try to install that on CentOS-5. However, yum complains about missing ggv, and the specfile indeed says that R requires ggv, which is not in CentOS-5 (it has kghostview). I could probably install with "rpm -Uvh

FW: Partitioning help
Hi, I have Centos server 4.5 with 3.3TB raid disk on a 3 ware controller. Now the problem is that I am not able to see the partition in full since it shows only 1.2TB. I have created a partition with Parted and (GNU PARTED) and I have seen it is 3.3 T there. However I have to make this partition on ext3 with make2efs j /dev/sda1 and after the formatting it went to 1.2T. Could someone

Problems installing 5.1 on a Tyan Thunder HEsl with a SCSI controller
Hi, I'm trying to install 5.1 using the onboard LSI Symbios 53C1010, and I'm running into some trouble. When the computer first boots, the SCSI BIOS sees the three HDDs, but when I go to install, the installer hangs for a while at inserting the sym53c8xx driver and if I go over to the screen on F4 it shows that it is trying to scan the SCSI bus and is resetting all of the IDs. Once that

What fires logrotate
I've been taking a look at how RedHat (and CentOS) handles logrotate. According to the man page, logrotate is supposed to be fired by cron. But when I look at root's crontab $ sudo crontab lu root no crontab for root What exactly fires logrotate (and other scheduled events like "logwatch", which ends up in root's inbox)? === Al

NFS exporting a GFS mount point
Hello, I have a storage offering some 11 TB of space. I'd happily use ext3 and NFS export to 4 client machines, but 8 TB seems to be the tested maximum. I'd really like one mount point for the whole 11 TB. Since GFS offers lock_nolock option for local mounting, I'm assuming it's not so out of line to NFS export this GFS mount point. Thoughts and inputs appreciated. --Koji

strict memory
Hello All: Running 5.2 at our university. We have several student's processes that take up too much memory. Our system have 64G of RAM and some processes take close to 32-48G of RAM. This is causing many problems for others. I was wondering if there is a way to restrict memory usage per process? If the process goes over 32G simply kill it. Any thoughts or ideas? TIA

Mplayer and VDPAU
Does anyone here know if the mplayer from rpmfusion (mplayer-1.0-0.41.svn20090711.el5.rf) was compiled with VDPAU support? I've looked on the mplayer web site and it says you can use vdpau, but it doesn't say HOW. Would that be with something like "-vo vdpau" ??
