Printer accounting/quota ?
...will be aprox. 1000 user accounts, mostly students. The school has asked for a solution that would make theme able to control the amount of paper each student is allowed to use eg. hard-quota. AFAIK, there is no solution in the Samba or CUPS tool-box itself, so i Googled a little and found the PyKota project: http://www.librelogiciel.com/software/PyKota/action_Presentation Unfortunately i do not have any experience with it, but it seems like a good solution because it is able to store the accounting data in LDAP, and monitor the printers life-time page counter. Any advice or info about...

Hi All, I have Samba 3.0.22-1ubuntu4 running on Ubuntu 6.01 (eft) and am trying to add printers using cupsaddsmb. On running it I get the following: root@pykota:/home/printeradmin# cupsaddsmb -U root -a -v Password for root required to access /var/run/cups/cups.sock via SAMBA: Running command: smbclient ///var/run/cups/cups.sock/print$ -N -A /var/spool/cups/tmp/454b654e20cfa -c 'mkdir W32X86;put /var/spool/cups/tmp/454b654a99ee9 W32X86/AcuLaser-C2000....

structuralObjectClass and smbldap-tools
Sorry, if this has been dealt with before, but I couldn't find it. I tried installing openldap 2.2 + samba 3. Currently I only have one install of openldap 2.0 and samba 2.2 running. Now, it all looks quite good, but the smbldap-tools do not add the necessary structuralobjectClass entries, so using the tools fails. I was able to manually change the first populate - which could be exported

print quota with CUPS
Hi, I am running CUPS-1.1.19 and Samba-2.2.8a on Debian 3.0 to serve both Windows and Unix clients. Has anyone got print quotas for Cups working? When I set quota using lpadmin, it does not limit the pages to be printed, in other words doesn't do anything. Any help is highly appreciated. Shanti

Samba Printer Accounting
Howdy, I'm looking for a piece of software I can use for accounting printers shared on a Linux box via Samba, to Win98/2K/XP machines on a domain. In other words, I want to be able to give user a print quota (say, $3.00), then charge them 10c per page they print from a Windows client to a printer shared from a Linux box running Samba. If they're out of quota, it doesn't print

User notification for jobs - windows clients
Hi, Sorry for cross-posting, but this seems to be an interdiciplinary issue. I would like our users to get a popup notification of the completion / failure of their jobs. I think that best way to implement this would be from CUPS, but I don't know how to generate the required information for SAMBA to send the message to the client. Any pointers welcome Thanks Gil

Everybody can do what the sysadmins (3 of us, at the moment) decree. The clients print via CUPS and Pykota. They (pupils, teachers, administration, directors) may do as their credentials decree. What Barlaeus had of Windows before was an utter disaster, based on a native NT4 PDC. I've thanked you all before, but the fact that the transition was achieved in one weekend (Friday NT4, Monday samba3 wi...

Page Accounting with Samba
Hi all, We have a Debian Sarge Box with Samba 3.0.14a and Cups 1.1.23-10 for sharing files and printers. For printing we had cups configured to understand postscript files produced by the postscript driver in the windows clients. With this configuration we have no problems for doing Page Accounting with cups. But we had a lot of problems with some documents (powerpoint,

page_count x number_of_copies
Hi all! I have a samba print server which stores information about each job. To accomplish this, I have set 'printing = sysv' so I can use print command. Print command passes to a script some info including '%c' (page_count). The problem is that if someone sends more than one copy of the document, %c doesn't tell me so. It means that %c tells exactly the number of pages sent

force b/w printing
Has anyone an idea, how to force users to print b/w on a color printer. We are in the process to deploy color printers to some of our offices where they use centos 5.5 as their OS. They need the printers to print some advertisement material. But for everything else, they don't need it. And because of the costs of the color printing we would like to force them to use B/W where not explicitly
