pxechn.c32 does not do TFTP
Colleagues,
I am attempting to chainload a file from TFTP. I have the following
lines in the configuration file:
LABEL WDS1
Menu LABEL WDS1
kernel pxechn.c32
append 10.14.141.150::boot\x86\wdsnbp.com -W -o 66.x=0a:0e:8d:96 -S
The TFTP server at 10.14.141.150 is operational and wdsnbp.com is
available at the indicated path. I have tried various combinations of
colons, forward and back slashes and URL schemes.
However, all i get from pxechn.c32 is...

Problems using pxechn.c32
Hi, I have more than one pxe server in my network and I need to chain from
one to the other. I used to do that with pxechain.com from old versions of
syslinux. With the new version (6.02) I'm trying to achieve this with
pxechn.c32. I copied the files ldlinux.c32, libcom32.c32, libutil.c32,
pxechn.c32, pxelinux.0 and vesamenu.c32 to the tftp's root in both servers
and add this in the menu:
LABEL server2
MENU LABEL server2
kernel pxechn.c32
append ip_of_server2::pxelinux.0
But when I access this entry in menu I got s...

uEFI PXE Primer/Examples
Patrick,
Even more confusing. I downloaded the 6.03 syslinux tar and extracted all the files.
It shows 3 pxechn versions,
[root at localhost_PXENG ~]# cd /tmp/syslinux-6.03
[root at localhost_PXENG syslinux-6.03]# find . -name pxechn.c32
./efi32/com32/modules/pxechn.c32
./efi64/com32/modules/pxechn.c32
./bios/com32/modules/pxechn.c32
Is it possible to pxechn to a BIOS pxelinux.0?

pxechn.c32: passing options to iPXE
In PXELinux 4.06 (the vanilla version, not gpxelinux.0), I'm trying to use
pxechn.c32 to call iPXE (undionly) with option 67 set to call an iPXE
script.
The relevant portion of my PXELinux config looks like this:
LABEL MDT
MENU LABEL ^B - MDT 2012 SP1
com32 pxechn.c32
APPEND undionly.kpxe -o 67.s=ipxe/mdt.ipxe
However iPXE doesn't seem to get the option correctly,...

When I DHCP boot to lpxelinux.0 6.02, and then pxechn.c32 back to
lpxelinux.0 6.02 with the http prefix, I get the graphical menu but then
the host hangs.
Switching everything over to 6.03-pre17, at all stages, and
pxechn.c32-loading over to lpxelinux.0, the host no longer hangs at the
graphical menu. Yay!
Some observations:

Syslinux version 6.03 for all the function within our TFTP server.
We are using Ubuntu as our main TFTP server for most deployments and
WDS for our Windows deployments. We can PXE boot from the ubuntu
TFTP server using both legacy (bios) and Uefi.
We have pxechn.c32 working with pxelinux.0 to switch between the two
system, but pxechn.c32 under Uefi come up with the folowing error
"pxechn.c32: ERROR: Unable to retrieve first packet". I have seen
that there was a message about this logged on the 28th August 2014 http://www.syslinux.org/...

Updated status on UEFI compliant version of the pxechn-module
Hi,
I have browsed through your syslinux archives and see that the issue of an UEFI compliant version of the pxechn-module has come up several times:
http://www.syslinux.org/archives/2014-August/022611.html
http://www.syslinux.org/archives/2015-March/023320.html
http://www.syslinux.org/archives/2015-September/024231.html
Now the issue as I understand it is that the original pxechn-module has been written t...

Confusion on lpxelinux vs. gpxelinux vs. ipxe vs gpxe.
Hi All,
I've been trying to understand how to use pxechn.c32 to chain a local
pxelinux menu item to a remote server which has it's own pxelinux hierarchy
served via TFTP and HTTP.
We have no control over DHCP next-server and filename fields so I wanted to
exploit the "prefix" -p option that pxechn.c32 accepts.
I spent a long time hitting...

Awesome! In fact, this might allow us to install an automatic 'http'
prefix on all subsequent requests, to avoid slow tftp --- or is that a
bad idea, and/or is there a way to default all transfers to http without
using pxech...

Updated status on UEFI compliant version of the pxechn-module
...tations and its impact on the PXE boot-process on various hardware (Microsoft and others blame unworking features of the DHCP options, but in actuality the fault seems to lie the rather vague specification of PXE 2.1 as far as I can see).
I just compiled up the 6.04-prerelease and can see that the pxechn-module has been removed from the two efi-trees. As a sidenote: the NEWS-file in the 6.04-prerelease is missing information about changes introduced in it (seems to be the file from 6.03).
As another sidenote and possible separate thread: since I couldn't get UEFI to boot pxelinux 6.03 properly...
