RFC: Reducing the number of set classes in ADT
...lSet * SmallPtrSet * StringSet * FoldingSet * ContextualFoldingSet * FoldingSetVector Every one of these classes has quirks. Here are some particularly bad ones: * SmallSet falls back to std::set<T> when it runs out of inline storage (which itself is pretty bad because std::set will pwn your caches). But if T is a pointer, SmallSet is an alias for SmallPtrSet, which has a completely different API, and has completely different performance characteristics. "It's vector<bool> all over again." As a concrete example, I see a lot of code using SmallSet<s...

Addressing the problem of noisy GPUs under Nouveau
...these parameters look like a mapping function of the form aX + b. However, after gathering more samples, I found out that the output was not continuous when linearly increasing pwm_offset [1]. Even more funnily, the period of this square function is linear with the frequency used for the fan's PWN. I tried reverse engineering the formula to describe this function, but failed to find a version that would work perfectly for all PWM frequency. This is the closest I have got to[3], and I basically stopped there about a year ago because I could not figure it out and got frustrated :s. I started...

...a/Red Hat want to start turning it on by default, too, that?s great. > Equating this to ?vaccination? is a huge stretch. Why? If you are unvaccinated and catch some preventable communicable disease, you begin spreading it around, infecting others. This is exactly analogous to a box getting pwned, joining a botnet, and attempting to pwn other boxes. When almost everyone is vaccinated, you get an effect called herd immunity, which means that even those few who cannot be vaccinated for some valid medical reason are highly unlikely to ever contract the disease because it cannot spread prope...

wifi on servers and fedora [was Re: 7.2 kernel panic on boot]
..., and those are almost entirely ARM-based systems. Perhaps a 'tablet' market for Enterprise Linux will come into play; at the moment the Linux penetration here is mostly Android, with some niche traditional Linux distributions filling certain needs (like Kali Linux for things like the Pwnie Express Pwn Pad).

A little love for acts_as_taggable #8279
I was working with acts_as_taggable earlier and thought I could make it a bit friendlier. I submitted a ticket and patch #8279. Basically, there are three differences. 1. Fixed the deprecated :dependent => true 2. Added migration generator (it has really specific requirements on table layout, so might as well generate it). 3. Expanded the README to explain using the migration and to include

Spectacularly disappointing disk throughput
Greetings! I''ve got a FreeBSD-based (FreeNAS) appliance running as an HVM DomU. Dom0 is Debian Squeeze on an AMD990 chipset system with IOMMU enabled. The DomU sees six physical drives: one of them is a USB stick that I''ve passed through in its entirety as a block device. The other five are SATA drives attached to a controller that I''ve handed to the DomU with PCI

aSTERISK / Vicidial systems over 4MB fiber
Hello everyone, As I am new to the asterisk community (although have been on the list reading for about 6 months) I wanted to see what users would recommend for security to protect several asterisk/ vicidial servers over a fiber connection. Currently I have a managed switch (Tellabs 8813-310) from time warner but I am having intrusion issues on my linux server which I think are contributing
