some errors of pvonhvm: xen-blkfront
hi all, I have just ported pvonhvm drivers to ubuntu 10.10(2.6.35), for ubuntu 10.10 was comply to the pvops, so it has it''s own blkfront, so I just add platform-pci to ubuntu 10.10 source, and then compile, that''s ok, then I start the ubuntu 10.10 with pvonhvm, the domU can boot successfully, but after running a...

PVonHVM, Networking and xentop
All, I have a domU running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64bit using PVonHVM which is working well but I noticed a quirk and just wanted to check it wasn''t just my misunderstanding. On my dom0 (Arch Linux, 64bit, AMD Phenom 2 X4 965 CPU, Xen 4.2.0 from my own PKGBUILD) I run "xl top" and xentop loads and shows all the currently running domains; only none...

[PATCH 0/2] reset xenstore watches to fix kexec in Xen PVonHVM guests
The following series improves kexec in a Xen PVonHVM guest. It is available via git: git://github.com/olafhering/linux.git xen-kexec-XS_RESET_WATCHES-3.0 A new xenstored command XS_RESET_WATCHES has been added in xen-unstable.hg changeset 23839:42a45baf037d. The command removes all watches and transactions for the guest. The following patches mak...

Kernel DomU 2.6.36.1 dont boot PVonHVM
Hi all, I try to use kernel 2.6.36.1 in HVM but building the drivers xen-blkfront, xenfs, platform-pci. I used Xen 4.0.2-rc1-pre and a DomU is a ubuntu 10.04 and I try with ubuntu 10.10. In boot I receive error "Cannot find a root partition /dev/xvda2" and a prompt (initramfs) appear. In dmesg (initramfs) appear: blkfront: xvda: barriers enabled (tag) xvda: xvda1 vbd vbd-51712: 16

PVonHVM and PCI passthrough
Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to passthrough to a HVM guest a PCI without IOMMU support using PV on HVM drivers in the guest. While trying creating the domain I received the following message: Error: failed to assign device: maybe the platform doesn''t support VT-d, or VT-d isn''t enabled properly? Is there any technical reason why this is impossible, or it just

RFH: loopback & blktap(2) and CDROM
...ectly a file, a block-device in dom0, etc. 2. With pure-PV the domU does not get an emulated IDE, but must use blkfront to access the disk. For this to work blkback needs a block device, which is either directly taken from a dom0 block device or provided via look-back or blktap. 3. Because of PVonHVM Xen provides the domU with both an IDE view and an XVD view of evey block device. The domU boots using the IDE view and when the PV drivers are loaded, disables the emulated view and switches over to the XVD view. Now some questions: 4. I read somewhere that "mixing loobback with tapdisk...

[PATCH] xen PVonHVM: require at least Xen 3.4 as dom0
The XenPVHVM extensions have not been tested much on very old hypervisors. At least Xen 3.4 gets some testing with the pvops kernel. Require at least Xen 3.4 for the PVonHVM extensions. If an older hypervisor is detected the extensions will be disabled and the guest will only see emulated hardware. [PATCH] xen/pv-on-hvm kexec: shutdown watches from old kernel
...ted to wipe all active watches for the guest. However, a patch for xenstored is required so that it accepts the XS_RESET_WATCHES request from a client (see changeset 23839:42a45baf037d in xen-unstable.hg). Without the patch for xenstored the registration of watches will fail and some features of a PVonHVM guest are not available. The guest is still able to boot, but repeated kexec boots will fail. unmodified_drivers DKMS package
Hey folks, I'd like to get a .deb of the unmodified_drivers put together. I just filed ITP, and I would love to have your help with it. http://wp.colliertech.org/cj/?p=653 I've never built a kernel package before, nor have I used DKMS, so it's going to be a bumpy ride for me. Do any of you have experience with these tools? Have you built the unmodified_drivers modules recently?

Re: Reg PV-HVM templates
...much about SolusVM. What you would need to do is: 1. Boot the VM in pure HVM mode (without xen_platform_pci enabled). 2. Install the guest operating system. 3. Apply the changes listed in the bottom of the README file here: http://mirror.orionvm.com.au/pub/ubuntu/1204/README 4. Reboot the VM into PVonHVM mode (xen_platform_pci=1) That is the rough outline though I don''t know how if SolusVM gives you all the settings required. These templates are made for use specifically with a raw Xen.org hypervisor. I will create a wiki article detailing this procedure sometime in the future. Joseph....

What went in Linux 3.5 from Xen standpoint.
...on two-socket or more of AMD cpus works correctly (I put in a temporary way in v3.4) but Lin implemented the correct way [lin, jeremy and me] - Make xen-blkfront capable of unloading. This requires some extra infrastructure work to handle delayed grants [jan] - Fixes in the hvc drivers for PVonHVM guests started with ''xm'' (not xl!) would fail during migration. [me] - Fix in blkback with discard operation in 32/64 (so 32-bit guest, 64-bit dom0) mix would fail. - Support for ''perf'' to work in the initial domain [lin] - PVonHVM guests on their reboot wo...

clonezilla and xen problem.
In the past I have used clonzilla under xen to backup windows domains. I just tried it and it will not work. this is xen 4.1.2 and clonzilla-live 1.2.10-14 the disk line is: disk = [ ''phy:/dev/xvg0/nfdlts-c,hda,w'', ''file:/extra/isoimages/clonzilla.iso,hdc:cdrom,r'' ] It boots cd OK. The problem is devices are xvda not hda and clonzilla is not happy with

I was very happy when my domU started without to apply my annoying patches for NVIDIA :) I will have a try for a Linux domU tomorrow (Xen PVonHVM + NVIDIA + Wine). This is what I want :) Kind regards. David _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xen.org http://lists.xen.org/xen-users

is kexec on Xen domU possible?
Hi all, I was messing around with kexec and it seems to work just fine on KVM, but for Xen domU images, it doesn't work at all. Daniel, I saw some patches from you back in September 2012 for adding this support for Dom0, but they don't seem to have gone into the kernel (but other patches went into kexec-tools at that time.) You mention that domU support is "easy" after your
