Problems with snow and rpvm
Dear Friends, I'm trying to learn to use parallel computation using snow & rpvm Now, I have two boxes: 1) Pentium 4, pvm 3.4.5, R 2.2.0 with FreeBSD 5.4 (box uffbsd); 2) PowerPC, pvm 3.4.5, R 2.1.1 with Debian Linux latest stable (box powerpclinux); I'm using the instructions in (found in snow.pdf) http://www.stat.uiowa. edu/~luke/R/cluster/cluster.html. vnc servers do not run
Hi all, I have Xen 3.0.3 installed on Debian Etch 4.0. The problem I have with it is that vncservers are not run for guest domains (also Etch), nomatter I specify vfb = [ ''type=vnc'' ], or not. Does Xen 3.0.3 support vnc frame buffers, or do I have to upgrade Xen? I know that Xen 3.1 creates vncservers with no problems. Thanks _______________________________________________

Thanks you all guys. I am able to create the RHEL5 PVM on RHEL5 host successfully. Only thing that i need to add is /mnt/etc/fstab in inintrd command and preload to both the fronthend drivers. As blow. # mount /home/disk /mnt # mkinirtd /boot//boot/initrd-2.6.18-8.el5xenU.img 2.6.18-8.el5xen --fstab /mnt/ etc/fstab --with xenblk --with xennet --prelo...

rpvm/snow packages on a cluster with dual-processor machi nes

Convert Trixbox HVM to PVM
Hi list, I recently installed the Trixbox distribution as an HVM and have now converted it to a PVM. Found very few resources on Internet where people had done this conversion so I had very little to compare with. Wanted to ask for comments about the kernel used in the PVM after the conversion. Installing Trixbox and later installing the xenified kernel, gives a kernel of 2.6.18-92..... In my Ub...

PVM error message
Hello R enthusiasts, I am working with a Fedora Core 6 OS and R 2.5. I have just finished loading PVM on my test cluster and this is working properly. Also, rpvm has been loaded in R. However, when I try to load my test program, I receive this error: Loading required package: rpvm Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)) ; unable to load shared library '/usr/local/lib/R/libr...

swapless pvm
What is the best practice in creating PVm domU''s - with or without swap? >From the admin point of view, especially in HA environment it is temptating not to have a seperate swap partition. rpvm/snow packages on a cluster with dual-processor machines
Hi, does anybody know how to use the dual processors in the machines of a cluster? I am using R with rpvm and snow packages. I usually start pvm daemon and add host machines first, and then run R to start my computing work. But I find that only one processor in each machine is used in this way and the other one always stays idle. Is there any simple way to tell pvm to use the two processors at the same...

Requirements for a PVM enabled distro
...the wrong list or if this question has been asked before. I’ve done quite a bit of searching and can’t find an answer) I am working on a heavily modified version of CentOS with a user-land that mostly matches 5.4 and a kernel based on 6.2. I''ve found tutorials on how to create a CentOS PVM (such as http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU) but I can''t seem to make it work for my particular OS. Is there a place where I can find all the requirements and limitations for a linux guest PVM so I can make the necessary modifications? Thanks. ______________________...

simple question - amd64 dom0, and PVM i486 domU ?
I''ve been looking for a solution that doesn''t involve dual booting, or chrooting things to get my x86 domU to work. I have a Debian xen server on an amd64 platform. It would seem that I should be able to also install or force the install of a non-xen i486 kernel. When I recieved this server it had a manufacturer''s install of Etch with an i486 kernel. Once I have both

Looking for suggestions on how to debug pvm/snow proc's
Hi All - I'm running a faily long script that uses rpvm & snowFT to spawn off multiple processes with the 'clusterApplyFT' function. Specifically, what happens is that the head node generates a number of seed clusters that are then spawned off to the pvm cluster (in this case, nodes on a 4 dual-core machine) using clusterApplyFT to apply a...

rpvm arch check
I've trying to fix the check error in rpvm package. Right now on my Mac, I use darwinport to install PVM and I can get rpvm to pass the check using 'R -arch x86_64 CMD check'. However the default 'R CMD check' uses i386 which fails since PVM is built for x86_64 only. So is there a way to ensure proper architecture is used t...

FNIC nested PVM
...(what OVM calls the VM hosts), I can configure access to disks - and I''m getting up to 130MB/s when I do a ''dd'' - on any of the LUNs (actually I get up to 130MB/s on the scst LUNs, and 50MB/s on the LIO-ORG, but they are different hardware). When I startup the nested PVM (since the HVM xen can''t run an HVM guest), Oracle Linux 6 gets as far as ''Detecting hardware'' and hangs - and an Ubuntu Xen install attaches to blkback and the provides a countdown as it waits for the hardware to settle/be available. At this point, I start to receive...

Help with makeClusters for Snow
Hi Everybody, I know that R has snow package which can be used for Parallel Computing. However, every time I try making a cluster, the only type of cluster I'm able to make is the "SOCK" (that too because I disabled the firewalls). For the rest (i.e. MPI, NWS, and PVM), I get error every time I try making one. I get the following errors ================================================= > cl = makeCluster(c("localhost", "localhost"), Type="MPI") Error in make.socket(serverHost, port) : socket not established > cl = makeCluste...
