FAQ: How to backup for recovery?
Hi!
DomUs can be backed up just fine, and there''s no problem to restore files as long
as the DomU boots. Now I wonder how to recover hard (desaster recovery)...
Backing up the disk images or partitions (from Dom0) seems to be not an option,
because there are changes to them all the time, so incremental backups would
always save them, and all saves would be inconsistent.
Now the idea

Dom-U config: whats the role of vif - IP
Hello,
in the example configuration-files I always read, that I''ve to add an
IP-Adress if I don''t have a DHCPd running. I''m running in bridge-mode. For
example:
vif = [''ip=192.168.5.99'']
But I don''t want to configure the IP-Adress in an config-file on Dom-0;
the Admin of the Dom-U should do that with Dom-U''s ifconfig (or

Xeon 5160 vs 5080
Chip Clock HT Cache Bus Speed
---------------------------------------------------------
5080 3.7 GHz YES 2MB 1066 MHz
5160 3.0 GHz NO 4MB 1333 MHz
Does the .7 GHz and HT worth more then 4MB cache and higher bus speed? The
application is VoIP so there is not a lot of IO so I would not think Bus
Speed would matter. I am finding mixed information on HT, some say it is
great, others say it

time synchronization problem (using NTP)
Hi,
using SLES10 I''m unable to synchronize the time of DomU with that of Dom0. There
is a persistent offset of about 3 seconds!
Here''s a small history (not actual output):

VM boots BUT keep throwing: "INIT: Id "X" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes"
Hi,
This is my setting:
I have a Logical Volume /dev/VG/suse with Suse installed. I have added
it to the grub and I can boot it and works perfectly fine.
Now I am running /dev/VG/root which is running Xen0. I have created a
Xen config file to boot a VM with disk: /dev/VG/suse. In other words I
want to boot
/dev/VG/suse as a virtual machine.
Below is what I am getting at boot time :

Hypervisor won''t find Dom0
Hello,
I''m running a standard Debian Etch Xen server for testing. Today I ran a
Debian update and it installed some new kernel-related packages. The
install scripts said something about deleting unused symlinks, but I was
in a hurry, so I can''t remember exactly. Now I''ve the problem that the
server will not boot any more. After loading the hypervisor, the system
