SIMPLE smb.conf file
...machines. No domain authentication, simple windows logons. Simple shares with share based authentication. The machine i'm installing Samba on is a Red Hat 9 machine. I want to set up samba so it will ask me for username/password on each individual share, or simply make the whole shares scheme pulic. I've tried to make shares public, and no matter what I do I always get the same error : \\Serviteur is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact.. blah blah. The network path was not found. Even what I try to access my linux machine using SAMBA from...

Behind Firewalls, SonicWalls, etc..
I've searched the archives a bit and have not really come up with a good answer to my queries. I have * running on a RH9 box behind a LinkSys NAT box. I can talk with iConnectHere outbound just fine. I am trying to configure an inbound Xten softphone from outside. I have that user set as NAT in sip.conf (seems to help), but I still cannot establish a full session. I think the problem comes

DSA harmful for remote authentication to compromised hosts?
...security-related one -- Logging in to a known-root-compromised host is "safe" in that whatever is done on the remote machine would not compromise my private key in any way that would allow an attacker to further use data from an established session to compromise other hosts where the same pulic key is installed. However, a little while ago, as part of the whole Debian "oops we commented out the rand() part of the random function", their announcements at the time mentioned that use of DSA keys to hosts with broken random generators would also compromise the DSA key. If this is...

Samba with split personality
...= No preferred master = No wins support = No deadtime = 10 lm announce = No include = /etc/samba/ip_conf/conf-%I [SAMPLE] # Some public share everybody can see That way, everybody can at least see the pulic [SAMPLE] share. To create "individual" behavior for some IPs, i added the "include" line. in /etc/samba/ip_conf/ i have a bunch of conf-192.168.XXX.XXX files, that now basically contain only some share definitions. This was an easy way of making shares available with varying...
