Update on Ptalarbvorm
Hi there,
I was wondering if someone closer to the work happening in the
Ptalarbvorm branch could be so kind as to provide a little update on
progress? I've heard tidbits from around the web that the improvement
over 1.1 is at least as much as 1.1 was itself over 1.0.
I know that myself and many others found Monty's occasional updates on
Thusnedla development to be absolut...

ptalarbvorm - presece on launchpad
Hallo all,
i didn't found any deb packages for ptalarbvorm so i did it by my self.
currently i do it in my playgrond here
https://launchpad.net/~bug-track/+archive/ppa
probably it will be better to add ffmpeg2theora too. I stated write
scrip to do it regularity without big work overhead.
any comments?
Regards,
Alexey

Ptalarbvorm ffmpeg2theora Windows binary
ffmpeg2theora nightly builds found at http://firefogg.org/nightly/
still uses Thusnelda. Where can I get a Ptalarbvorm version for
Windows?

Ptalarbvorm Update?
To my recollection, there hasn't been any talk about Ptalarbvorm. Is
Ptalarbvorm development ditched? (I have noticed some commits for it every
now and then, but nothing like the amount of commits last year)

Ptalarbvorm is now in trunk
We're about ready to do a 1.2 alpha release from the ptalarbvorm tree,
and as such it's no longer experimental. I've replaced the theora svn
trunk with a copy of derf's experimental tree; please do subsequent
development toward the release there.
The old 1.1.x trunk is available as
http://svn.xiph.org/branches/theora-1.1 if you need it.

Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
...easier process, allowing things like
frame-by-frame editing without the need to decode and reencode the video
again, thus incurring loss.
I was quite skeptical of the efficiency of intra-only Theora, and I had
speculated that the quality difference between intra-only Theora video
(using the latest ptalarbvorm code) and, say, MJPEG video, wouldn't be
much. I decided to test this theory, and so I pulled down some real HD
1080p videos from the Xiph media site (http://media.xiph.org) and
decided to test intra-only Theora and MJPEG at 25Mbps with the test
clips. I used the encoder_example that's pa...

Webcam streaming with ptalarbvorm
Hey all! I'm sure you've all been missing my webcam stream, so I
decided to start it up again (also, I wanted to do it for my family
overseas).
However, this time, I'm doing things a little bit differently. For
starters, the encoder is the current (as of about an hour ago)
ptalarbvorm branch which is destined to become libtheora 1.2. Another
difference is that I'm using gstreamer (via gst-launch) to handle every
aspect of the webcam streaming, from capturing through to streaming.
The command for that is as follows:
time gst-launch-0.10 -vvvvv --messages --eos-on-shutdown...

[PATCH]: PPC/Altivec implementations of SAD and SSD
Hi,
This patch adds Altivec-optimized implementations of oc_enc_frag_sad and
oc_enc_frag_ssd. This patch is against the latest svn revision of
theora-ptalarbvorm.
Speeds up encode on a plant stop-motion clip on a 1 GHz PPC 7447 by ~3%,
timewise. Time spent in oc_enc_frag_sad is reduced from 4.2% to 2.3% and
oc_enc_frag_ssd from 1.2% to 1.0%, as reported by Shark.
Currently this is only integrated into the Xcode build project and need
support for detectin...

Updates to development?
Hi, again. Are there any updates to the development of Theora? Like a
version 1.2? I ask this because I want to be re-assured Theora is not just
sitting while people are choosing H.264...

libtheora 1.2.0alpha1 release
All,
I'm pleased to announce the first alpha release of the new 1.2
libtheora, codename 'ptalarbvorm'. This is the reference
implementation of the Ogg Theora video codec, hosted at Xiph.Org.
Things are settling down with the new code and we're ready for wider
testing toward an eventual 1.2.x stable release. So please download
it, try it with your applications and other code, and give us

Fwd: Theora developer question.
Hi Beorn,
1. replace "-v 7" to "--optimize --two-pass --soft-target -V 2000" you
will get about 200MB file size with no changes in quality.
2. try to use libtheora ptalarbvorm, it is in alpha state but has some
improvements. You can find comparison here:
http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/theora/demo9.html
if you use ubuntu 10.10 you can download precompiled libtheora and
ffmpeg2theora on my ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~bug-track/+archive/xiph
or just binary ffmpeg2t...

encoding raw file (.yuv) using ffmpeg2theora
Hello!
I'm trying to use ffmpeg2theora to encode raw (.yuv) files in I420
format (just frames, no headers at all), but failed to find
corresponding input format. Is there any documentation of supported
formats for ffmpeg2theora?
Or maybe there is another command-line tool for Windows to encode raw
video using Theora algorithm?
Thank you for help!
Alexander.

optimization of theora contract job
Theora-devs:
I am in seek of a theora (but possibly vorbis/ogg/ffmpeg) dev to optimize the encoding in a realtime software product.
We do live encoding and transcode into ogg/theora/vorbis at various resolutions and frame rates. The higher resolutions cannot process in realtime and we are pushing the boundaries of hardware (cpu) encoding with the existing theora/ffmpeg.
Right now we have to

Google Puts Weight Behind Theora
"... we need a baseline to work from - one standard format that (if all else
fails) everything can fall back to. This doesn?t need to be the most complex
format, or the most advertised format, or even the format with the most companies
involved in its creation. All it needs to do is to be available, everywhere. The
codec in the frame for this is Ogg Theora..."
