Just to dispel any hopes -- RC3 really low bitrate
...ettings than higher (I doubt I would be able to hear any difference at all for 5 and above, while 0 through 3 were obvious step-ups). Also, if possible lower bitrates should degrade more gracefully. Gradually add high-frequencies, not in chunks. Does the bitrate limiting engine have any linkup with psycoacoustics? -- it doesn't sound like it, at least not for lower bitrates. I'd experiment with adding in harmonics of the highest frequency coded to fill in the high end; it may be better to have a wrong high-end than no high-end, psycoacoustically speaking. Note that the Vorbis internals have changed...

end-user mode for a moment (side-by-side tests)
...lt at all found here, but could the psycoacoustic model be tuned any? Maybe if somebody could assemble a "test kit" that a lot of people could use and try to tune the model to what they thought sounded best, then the results could be averaged? Or do we have it on higher authority that the psycoacoustics are the best they could be? (I am reminded of Linus Torvalds' announcement for 2.4.0-test2 on l-k back when I was subscribed.) Wow. Not bad. Now gotta try against MP3. Dang, does that mean I have to grab notlame or bladeenc? Darn... I didn't even install them when I reinstalled last, beca...

Possibility of Incorporating a psychoacoustic model in CELT
Good Morning; Iam asking whether any one have knowledge about is it possiple to incorporate a psycoacoustic model?(specifically?I mean ?MPEG-1 psychoacoustic model 1) into the CELT codec(any version even older versions of the coder,?no matter) Iam using version 0.3.2. Kind Regards; Osama. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

How floor1 modifications may affect final (de)coded samples?
Hello, I've been "playing" a little with the floor1 encoding, and my game has posed me a question. I've been modifying (just curiosity) manually, and randomly (not too great modifications), the quantized [floor1_Y] values, just before coding them with the codebooks. As, if I'm not wrong, the [floor1_Y] obtained are then removed to get the residue vectors for each channel, I

Models used in mp3 and Ogg Vorbis?
Hi again. Since mostly stupid people gave me stupid answers last time, I will try again. MP3 and Ogg Vorbis use different models in order to remove most of the bits. What is the names of these models and how do they differ? <p><p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to

just an idea about quality evaluation
Hello I had an idea about judging the quality of ogg vorbis (or any other lossy codec) I took a wave-file and encoded it to ogg. Then decoded ogg to wav and inverted it's phase. When mixing the original wav with the phase-inverted decoded ogg-file, any identic parts of compressed and uncompressed audio should be eliminated. Of course there's always a "rest" of sound because
