ZFS write time performance question
HI, The question is a ZFS performance question in reguards to SAN traffic. We are trying to benchmark ZFS vx VxFS file systems and I get the following performance results. Test Setup: Solaris 10: 11/06 Dual port Qlogic HBA with SFCSM (for ZFS) and DMP (of VxFS) Sun Fire v490 server LSI Raid 3994 on backend ZFS Record Size: 128KB (default) VxFS Block Size: 8KB(default) The only thing

...hardware array and its vendor recommends the following setting in /etc/system: set sd:sd_max_throttle = <value> or set ssd:ssd_max_throttle = <value> Is it possible to monitor *somehow* whether the variable becomes sort of bottleneck ? Or how its value influences io traffic ? Regards przemol

64-bit CentOS - your experience
...ntOS. I am not against 64-bits (we use it for many, many years using Solaris) but what concerns me is the stability of 64-bit Linux. Can you share your experience regarding stability of 32-bit and 64-bit CentOS ? Does anybody use 64-bit CentOS in production (web applications) environment ? hello! First of all thank you for all your information you give us on this sites. It is a great help to learn for example dtrace. i''ve a little script in work, which shows the cpu utilization per process in percent. this output is refreshed every 2 seconds for example. now i want to extend this script with the output of the allocated bytes of memory per process. how could i display this

PHP probes
Hi all, I remember at OSCON 2005 there was talk of adding DTrace probes to PHP (in fact, I have a photo of Bryan and Wes working on it!). Did they ever get into the upstream branch, ''cause I don''t recall seeing a --enable-dtrace (or similar) configuration option when I recently built PHP 5.2.1. If not, is there an ETA? ZFS and VXVM/VXFS
We are looking at the alternatives to VXVM/VXFS. One of the feature which we liked in Veritas, apart from the obvious ones is the ability to call the disks by name and group them in to a disk group. Especially in SAN based environment where the disks may be shared by multiple machines, it is very easy to manage them by disk group names rather than cxtxdx numbers. Does zfs offer such

recommend benchmarking SW
Hey folks, We've got some new hardware and are trying to figure out what best to do with it. Either run CentOS right on the bare metal, or virtualize, or several combination options. Mainly looking at : - CentOS on bare metal - CentOS on ESXi 4.0 with local disk - CentOS on ESXi with 1 VM running Openfiler to serve disk to other VMs And want to benchmark these 3 scenarios So far all we

Performance Tuning - ZFS, Oracle and T2000
Hi All, We are currently in the process of testing Solaris 10 with ZFS and Oracle and are running it on a T2000. When checking performance statistics on the T2000, we notice that only one thread of the CPU appears to be doing any of the processing. Leaving all other threads seemingly idle. Are there any tuning parameters that need to be set or changed when running Oracle on T2000 using

Auto-installing security updates?
I've been asked to think about setting up an installation for a recently- widowed man. His needs are small - mail, Internet, on-line banking, basically - but his wife dealt with all of it on her laptop and he feels very insecure. It seems to me that CentOS would be perfect for him except for the need to keep it securely patched. I'm wondering if it's possible to auto-install

Difference between ZFS and UFS with one LUN from a SAN
All, I understand that ZFS gives you more error correction when using two LUNS from a SAN. But, does it provide you with less features than UFS does on one LUN from a SAN (i.e is it less stable). Thanks, Shawn This message posted from opensolaris.org
