routing question
So far I have been used to using linux to provide simple routing from my network to others using commands such as ip route add 192.168.1.0/24 via 192.168.0.4 etc and it has all worked perfectly. I also use smoothwall GPL to provice vpn services, however I have hit on a problem and am not at all clear on the way in which to proceed. I now need to provide a route to services, the access to these

what provices "replace" command?
I am used to using the replace command to quickly replace strings in file, but it's not available on some of my fresh CentOS 5.4 servers. "yum info replace", "yum whatprovides replace", and "yum search replace" doesn't show me which package(s) to install to get it. So, does anyone know which package to install to get the "replace" command? Google

getent group fails
Hi, Well, I'll try to start at what I think the root of my problems are. When I do a getent group, I only get a list of the BUILTIN groups. BUILTIN+administrators BUILTIN+users But if I do a wbinfo -g, all the AD groups show up. This alone is not the overall problem, but it is creating a problem because I need getent to return the groups for logging different AD groups to different log

Regression; how to get t-values for all parameters estimates
...ages I still haven't found a solution for my problem. I'm trying to fit an additive linear regression model with 2 effects, both fixed, to some dataset. The function contrasts(effectA) <- contr.sum can gaurantee that the coefficients per parameter sum to one, and the function dummy.coef provices the estimates of all coefficientss. But I would also like to be able to obtain the corresponding t-values for ALL parameters (not just the number of effects minus 1, provided by summary()). Does anyone know how to get (all of) them? Here comes what I've already tried: ## Try data: > Data...

Error when installing Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
I am running Ubuntu 11.04 with wine 1.3.20. I am trying to install the Phantom Menace. The menu pops up to install, and takes me to the setup. When the setup loads, an error pops up: Severe: get prof failed! The setup continues like normal, but then when actually installing the files, another error pops up: Severe: file set execute failed. The progress bar jumps straight to 100%, then about 8

iostat -xn 5 _donot_ update: how to use DTrace
on Solaris 10 5.10 Generic_118822-23 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200 I run #iostat -xn 5 to monitor the IO statistics on SF T2000 server. The system also have a heavy IO load, for some reason iostat donot refresh (no any update). It seems like iostat is calling pause() and stucked there. Also my HBA driver''s interrupt stack trace indicates there is a lot of swtch(), the overall IOPS

home directory server performance issues
I?m looking for advice and considerations on how to optimally setup and deploy an NFS-based home directory server. In particular: (1) how to determine hardware requirements, and (2) how to best setup and configure the server. We actually have a system in place, but the performance is pretty bad---the users often experience a fair amount of lag (1--5 seconds) when doing anything on their home

R 2.0.0 is released
I've rolled up R-2.0.0.tar.gz a short while ago. This is a new version with a number of new features. See below for the details. As was the case with R 1.0.0, this new version represents a coming of age more than a radical change to R. We do plan to celebrate the new major version with press releases and such. The release will be available from
