proverbial floodgates thrown wide open for centos-announce list
Starting maybe ~ 12 hours ago, the proverbial floodgates were thrown open on emails sent to the CentOS-announce mailing list for CentOS 5.x, all on account of individual package releases. RedHat have not done the same. What's up? Are these mistakenly released re-announcements of (previously released) package updates? Or, did the mail...

[LLVMdev] [RFC] Encoding Compile Flags into the IR
...e Optimization has a problem. We need to preserve some of the flags with which the modules were compiled so that the semantics of the resulting program are correct. For example, a module compiled with `-msoft-float' should use library calls for floating point. And that's only the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Goals ===== My goals for whichever solution we come up with are to be: 1) Flexible enough to differentiate between flags which affect a module as a whole and those which affect individual functions. 2) Quick to query for specific flags. 3) Easily extensible, preferably without changin...

I am leaving llvm
...compelled to throw in my two cents here. I agree 100% that the Foundation is full of people with good intentions. I have been on a board like that, and it is extremely seductive; the downside is, having such good intentions you see no value in establishing good practices and processes. There is a proverbial road paved with all good intentions. [This is where Chris will step in and say this isn't the right forum for discussing how the Foundation is set up or behaves, and he is right. So I will stop here.] OOTC: I deeply respect Rafael for his technical contributions, both in open-source and as...

If the repository is a binary proprietary format, (which I'm not sure if it is, please correct me if I'm wrong), how do we go back to CVS/SVN/Monotone/etc.? Recovering expunged but not purged e-mails from mdbox with zlib compression
...e-mail by cutting it out from the mdbox and running gunzip over it, but this method was very fiddly and would not have worked for a bulk job.? I appreciate I could have just deleted the index files and gotten all the deleted messages back by having the index rebuilt but that would have been the proverbial "hammer to crack a nut". Fortunately this e-mail had no attachment for me to worry about, as those are also detached for sis by dovecot. Can anyone tell me of a quick and easy way to recover one or multiple e-mails marked as expunged but not purged which are stored in a mdbox with...

[LLVMdev] Another way to JIT: "dlopen from memory"
...emory": http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=11767 5 is trivial. Even a prototype of this initial JIT model that uses temporaries on the filesystem would be useful for JIT users doing debugging or profiling. I don't really have time to implement this. I'm just kicking the proverbial can down the road. I may file a feature request PR or write up something in the style of sabre's LLVMNotes: http://nondot.org/sabre/LLVMNotes/ Reid
