Samba 3.0 and ETA?

Will 3.0 Samba servers be a drop in replacement for Windows NT domain servers or can this not be expected since MS doesn't release the specs of the necessary APIs etc.? analyzing suvival data using splines (a.k.a., piecewise log-hazard-ratio models)
I'm looking for software that makes plots such as fig 4 (a)-(e), fig 5 anf fig 7 of Gray, Robert, "Flexible Methods for Analyzing Survival Data Using Splines, with Applications to Breast Cancer Prognosis," 1992, J Am Stat Assoc, pp 942-51. In other words, I'm looking for software that takes survival data and a continuous covariate as input and computes a curve giving log hazard ratio (or rate of failure for a specific time) as a function of the continuous covariate, as well as curves giv...

...me - days, and event - binary), and microarray expression data for 200 genes (predictor continuous variables). My data matrix "data.test" has ncol: 202 and nrow: 80. What I want to do is: - run recursive partitioning on this data to get groups of patients homogenous in terms of survival/prognosis. - extract the "correlation" of single gene expression (each of the 200 genes) with recurrence-free survival (time and event): i want to know which variables can predict best a poor/good prognosis based on survival data. I am using function "ctree" from the "party" p...

Mongrel Now Recommended Setup?
I see that the RubyOnRails.com site has migrated to Mongrel with Apache as a front-end proxy. Is that now the/a recommended setup for Rails apps? We''re still using FCGI but I''m always interested to learn more about other folk''s successful deployment choices. Across all of our sites we''re pumping out about 300k pages per day so anything that saves memory or has

Sys.glob() doesn't handle a UNC windows path beginning with backslashes
....files(path=file.path(list.files(path=.libPaths(), full.names=TRUE), "etc"), pattern="^menus\\.txt$", full.names=TRUE) It seems to give identical results to Sys.glob for mapped drives, works with UNC paths in Windows, and seems quite fast. So my questions relate to diagnosis, prognosis, and prescription (cure?). 1) Diagnosis: Am I correct that my problem(s) originate in the "partial emulation" of glob in Windows. 2) Prognosis: If so, is there any likelihood that the emulation will improve in the near future? 3) Prescription: If not: a) is assign(".lib.loc&qu...

Coloured label, terminal branch and bars in dendograms
...ust$order], at=1:150, line=-2) This does not color the terminal branch and does not work very well if I wish to cluster 400 - 500 objects as the text gets very cramped (even after cex and las option). ii) I also wish to investigate if the data is clustered according to several suspected factors/prognosis. Therefore I want to plot these as 'color filled bars' underneath the dendogram (akin to those published microarray clustering papers). My way of doing this is to use mtext with "-" as follows: plclust(ir.hclust) mtext( "-", side=1, col=ir.var1[ir.hclust$order], at=1...

RE: R performance questions
...ues. If patients are dying from lack of diagnostic accuracy, I think we have to work hard to use this technology to help them, if we can. I think we can, even now. What if I offer, in my clinic, a service for cancer patients to compare their affy data to an existing set of data, to predict their prognosis or response to chemotherapy? I think people will line up out the door for such a service. Knowing what we as a group of array analyzers know, wouldn't we all want this kind of service available if we or a loved one got cancer? Can our programs deal with 1,000 .cel files? 10,000 files? I...
