Disabling Roaming Profile Support
The question often asked is, ?How may I enforce use of local profiles?? or ?How
do I disable roaming profiles??
There are three ways of doing this:

How to test roaming profiles
...more up-to-date Samba version which is
3.3.2).
Now, roaming profiles no longer work. I even wonder what would be the
proper to way to test them. Workstations are running Windows XP.
I followed the procedure for Win2000/XP located here:
http://us6.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/ProfileMgmt.html#id2660622
and the profile conversion for userx took place; however, looking on the
workstation, it says that userx's profile is roaming but its status is
local. Adding a file on the Desktop, and after logout, the file is not
synched to the server.
Thanks,

Does anyone know how I can do it?
Thanks,

Win XP home
Are there special issues when using XP home with Samba?
I have a machine that when trying to log in as the user Mike, the logs show
that it is trying to login in as Mike Barsalou.
I tried making another user mbarsalou but I can't get it to authenticate
properly.
I was thinking it was a feature of XP home.
Anyone have ideas?

folder redirection of my documents
I have a PC running XP that several users share. I've logged in as them
on it and right clicked on my documents and redirected it for each
person to r:\my documents so that their roaming profiles will load
faster. I've ran into a problem that when anyone logs out on this PC,
XP attempts to synchronize my documents of everyone that has logged into
that PC with folder redirection.

Intermittent "Network name cannot be found" error when accessing XP roaming profile
Hi guys,
How are you ?
I've installed samba-3.0.7 from source on a Slackware Linux 10.0 server
configured with "--with-ldap" as a backend (OpenLDAP-2.2.13) and with
nss_ldap installed. I have my profiles share configured as follows:
[profiles]
comment = Profile Share
path = /data/profiles
writeable = yes
guest ok = yes
browseable = no
profile acls = yes
csc policy = disable

User settings after migration
Hi All,
We have an NT4 machine which is our PDC. I'm looking to replace this with
one of our linux servers. I joined the linux server to the domain ok.
Then I vampired all the accounts across which worked ok. I then switched
off NT PDC, made samba the master and start samba service. Problem is we
are loosing all our settings. After a quick hunt around I noticed a new

Roaming Profiles
I'm mulling over the idea of replacing my Win 2k MS AD using Samba. But
I'd like to retain roaming profile capability for all my users. Based on
your experience is it stable enough to implement for a production
environment?
I have only 30 using Win 2k Pro and some XP.
What are the pit falls I need to look out for?
Thank you!

PDC Multiple users
Hi list:
I've been using samba+ldap as a PDC with roaming profiles for some
time but recently I joined some machines to the domain wich are used
by several users and then started the problems, the profiles loaded
are not the ones owned by the users, I mean user1 loads the profile of
the user2 and so on. I'm using Debian Etch (stable) with samba 3.0.24.
Any Help
Thanks

roaming profiles moved to a new machine - big confusion
Hello samba dancers,
I'm Friedrich Strohmaier and new to this mailing list. More important:
I'm (very) new to PDCing Computers in a network, and I ran in big
troubles doing so.
Try to tell a long story in short: I'm a fairly experienced
administrator for linux systems, and was orderd to move a
serverinstallation (SuSE7.0, Samba2.2.x) to a new machine. The old
machine did stop

How to use local profiles in samba PDC?
How do you enable local profile creation on machines connected to a samba PDC?
I thought it would be automatic, but it doesn't seem to be. If there
isn't a roving profile, windows complains it can't find your profile
on the server, then instead of creating a local one, it throws up this
message:
"Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a

speed of samba vs Windows
Is there any reason to believe that a samba server would be slower when
serving up roaming profiles than a real Windows server? I know roaming
profiles are slow by nature and that there are things you can do to help
like configuring ffolder redirection. But all else being equal, how would a
samba server compare to a Windows server when it comes to speed specifically
with respect to roaming

Roaming profiles
I want to setup a linux box with samba as a file and print server for a
LAN of 20 NT 4.0 SP3 workstations. I want the home direcotories to be on
the server the clients to have roaming profiles.
For this, do I have to make the linux box a domain controller? I want to
avoid it if I can, because the domain control code in not on the
production releases. I don't want to setup an NT server either.

SeBackupPrivilege
We're using Samba 3.0.21a-1 on a CentOS 4.2 server (kernel
2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp); everything works more or less fine,
it's functioning as the PDC with an OpenLDAP back end (setup
essentially straight from the Idealx.org playbook), etc.
We're trying to mount Windows shares to back them up, and
getting "permission denied" errors when trying to read
certain files from those
