Re: PDC with roaming profiels
Hi All,
Hopefully someone knows the answer to this? I have a RH 7.3 box running
Samba 2.3a as a PDC for over 1 1/2 years now. Things are good for the most
part, except some minor annoyances with the way windows (2k) is handling the
roaming profiles. Maybe I need to alter the permissions for the users
profile, any insight would be wonderful though. The profiles copied to the
local box under

Problem with Roaming Profiles
...ot many machines!
I HAD 1 windows XP machine with local profiles for everyone - worked fine.
I have now installed a linux box with SAMBA on it and I have 3 desktop PCs.
I have set up roaming profiles (I think) correctly according to the How-To
book. I initially had some trouble getting the local profiels moved to the
server, but I don't think that's the issue now.
Anyway, what happens is this:--
Log in to Machine A. Everything works fine, the various profile files seem
to go to the server, things like the re-direction of My Documents works
etc. etc.
Log in to Machine B and only SOME of t...

Samba 3.0 PDC + XP + roaming profile = big, strange mistery of sorts
Please bear with me as this is quite a complicated problem which has
eluded me for days now...
I recently upgraded a Samba 2.2 PDC to Samba 3.0 [3.0.20a as of now].
After upgrading, I had problems with two XP machines, among 16 of them.
One of them didn't validate the domain users correctly. That was
immediately taken care of by having said machine leave and re-join the
domain. Nothing

Problems logging on from XP to Samba PDC w/OpenLDAP
I've been at this for a few weeks, and have read quite a bit on the
subject. I try to follow "Samba-3 by Example" as much as I can. I'll
apologize in advance
if my problems should be discussed elsewhere. Samba's involvement is
integral,
but I have no reason to suspect Samba is at fault.
I'll start by describing what is working. DHCP and DNS look fine. Samba

samba 3.5.6 as PDC & LDAP - roaming profile problem
Hi all;
for few weeks I'm trying to implement a new samba PDC server for my school.
It is based on debian squeeze and samba 3.5.6 with lDAP backend.
I was able to join a computer into domain, LDAP is working, mapping home
drive for users also.
It seems that almost all works good but with one exeption. The one thing
which is broken is roaming profile support.
When user is logging into domain

...? Rigth.
I do not have a solution for you, but may be a little hint: NT/W2K
profiles can't be copyed like normal files, because quite everything
(SID the belong to, Domain they belong to, ...) is stord in
ntuser.dat. That's a big problem when you change local profiles to
domain ones or profiels between domains. Somewhere in NT/W2K
(Settings, System, user profiles?) there is a posiblity to move a
profile to a new location.
I recomend the following:
create a new test user with a blank profile and try if this works in
your new set up. If not, ... :-(
If yes, make your way throuh the NT...
