ideas, modeling highly discrete time-series data
...go managing a time series with varying gaps between the data series in 'R'. (My final preferred solution was to use "its" function & then forecast(Arima( ) ). ) My next question is a general statistical question where I'd like some advice, for those willing / able to proffer any wisdom: - I need to predict using this same time series, where the *data* are highly discrete. E.g., I will have values like 1e5, 2.2e5, and 3.6e5, but I will never have 1.3e5 or 1.8e5, etc. - I could simply leave these values as discrete, similar to a binomial distributi...

[LLVMdev] Please review my patch to make GHC calling convention work on ARM
All, I would like to submit the attached patch, which allows the GHC (Glasgow Haskell Compiler) calling convention to work on ARM targets. Could some nice person please review this code, so I can move towards getting it committed? I have thoroughly tested this patch again GHC on a Debian-ARM (armel) system. Unfortunately my understanding of LLVM is limited, so it's likely I'm not

We are using NSCD. There are a lot of user accounts. I have seen this problem discussed elsewhere, but nobody has proffered any solutions. WARNING you cannot build info or html versions of the R manuals
.... Again, I apologise for the screw-up. So. Here we go again: It's no big deal, but when I build R from source (as I must) I always get the warning given in the subject line of this post. I have searched the web a bit and have found a number of references to this warning. Universally the proffered solution is "install texinfo". So I did (just now) sudo yum install texinfo and was told: > Package texinfo-4.13a-16.fc17.x86_64 already installed and latest version > Nothing to do I checked with "whereis texinfo" and got: > texinfo: /usr/share/texinfo...

Monitor, append audio?
...a new file.. I'm using Monitor. Monitor automatically calls sox after the call ends.. Is there a way to manually control this process, and instruct sox to append to the destination file, rather than overwrite? patch: rsync-2.5.5: UNIX ACL support
...ard links, acls, symlinks, batchfiles, % ssh remote rsync --version \| grep acl Capabilities: 64-bit files, socketpairs, hard links, acls, symlinks, batchfiles, aside from that, the failure modes are largely unexplored i encourage anybody who has the hacking muse and the inclination to fix or proffer a better patch and maybe even to see about getting something merged into the project. i think, at any rate, purloining the samba guys' work is a decent basis for such an endeavor. anyway, my only commitment to ongoing maintenance is to update for 2.5.6, since that release seems imminent, and th...

...sync twice, but this can be real messy when the files are all over the place. I do #1 at present but it means that I efectively lose 70gb of disk space because I have to keep that buffer for the rsync to fully succeed. Svy function doesn't work nested in user-defined function
Hi R-help, I posted about this late yesterday but got no response. I may have put TMI in the original request. Not to mention I couldn't cut and paste yesterday because I was working R off a non-network computer while asking for help on a network computer. Essentially, I have this user-defined function: test <- function(X){ chisq <- svychisq(~X

Supporting symbolic links in Path library routines
include/llvm/Support/FileSystem.h has file_type which enumerates the file system’s view of the file type. One of the values is “symlink_file”. But because the Unix implementation of status() calls stat() instead of lstat(), if the path refers to a symbolic link, the link is followed. There’s no way to get information about the symbolic link itself. I think changing status() to call lstat() is

rsync+ (batch mode) feature suggestion
Bert, Hi. If you are still interested in your rsync+ project, changes for which have evidently been (and are, perhaps, still being?) submitted to the official, upstream rsync version, you may want to add the following feature, proffered below, in order to conduce a little greater batch mode usage flexibility primarily for those with above average security concerns. Currently (at least in the current, official, stable rsync version), batch mode may only be utilized in a fairly rigid, autocratic, master pushes to slaves mode. Th...

Split String in regex while Keeping Delimiter
I thought replacing the spaces following instances of +++,++,+,- with "\n" and then reading with scan should succeed. Like Ivan Krylov I was fairly sure that you meant the minus sign to be "-" rather than "?", but perhaps your were using MS Word as an editor which is inconsistent with effective use of R. If so, learn to use a proper programming editor, and in any case

signing syslog files with PGP
I am thinking about writing some sort of deamon which signs syslog files with PGP. This should help dedecting unauthorised changes in the syslog files. What I have in mind works as follows: Whenever a new line is added to a syslog file the existing syslog file checked against the privious made signature. If the file passes this test, the new line(s) is/are added. Then a new signature is

Quota not working with dict proxy
...blank would result in just getting the username instead of the username at domain. This is not at all obvious from the documentation, IMO. The docs would benefit greatly from some example use cases (no, I'm not volunteering; I'm TERRIBLE with documentation ;) ). Anyway, if someone could proffer some help or at least guidance here, I'd be very grateful.
