pdbedit -P 'maximum password age' -C 0 should == never expire?
...ely after I did a smbpasswd. Shouldn't setting it to 0 mean the password will never expire? Or are there any other way to set password to never expire? Here is the microsoft's interpretation on 'maximum password age': http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/proddocs/entserver/501.asp It said 0 = 'never expire'.

Moving Domains - profiles question
...I am a bit concerned about the user's profiles. These are local profiles. I want this domain move to be transparent to the users so I need to copy or move the individual profiles. I've seen this procedure for copying a profile (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/sysdm_userprofile_copy.mspx?mfr=true) What I'm concerned about is if I move the profile wholesale into the new path, keys in the old user.dat might conflict with the new domain. Does anyone have any experience of this type of migration that can offer any advice? Thanks in advance, Derm...

According to this document: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/archive/winntas/proddocs/concept/xcp01. mspx?mfr=true <http://www.microsoft.com/technet/archive/winntas/proddocs/concept/xcp01 .mspx?mfr=true> (scroll down to the section "Removing a Computer from a Domain") it is not possible to remove a BDC from a domain without reinstalling the OS. However, there are c...

mounting/connection to 2003 shares (members servers and domain controllers)
...* clients to connecting to Windows 2003 and of course versions of samba less than 3.0 I was finally able to map my samba 2.2.5 installation to windows 2003 AD server by reviewing this technet article. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/proddocs/standard/570.asp after making those changes.. to force the security policies to update immediately, run: gpupdate at an cmd prompt and you should be good to go. What still doesn't work? View browse lists.... like smbclient -L melkor I still get an access denied on the browse list. Curio...

Migrating to samba from windows NT domain
Hello, I'm planning migration to Samba over Debian Etch servers from NT domain with Windows NT servers. I have only one domain, with 1 PDC and 5 BDC distributed on various subnets. Unfortunately I have running various services in PDC and BDC servers that I must remain after the migrations, so I can't stop PDC and BDC servers permanently after the migration to Samba. Can I deactivate

IP address getting overridden by Samba and domain member?
I have been running Samba 4 as an AD/DC for a couple of years now with few problems. I provisioned the domain using --dns-backend=BIND9_FLATFILE and the /etc/named.conf includes the samba-tool provision created file /var/lib/samba/private/named.conf, with zone files in /var/lib/samba/private/dns. All that has been working just fine for for 2 or 3 years. Lately, I added a VirtualBox XP guest

Seeking help in Package development
Dear all, I am a new user of R and currently trying hard to develop my own package. Here I am following this tutorial 'http://www.mathfinance.cn/how-to-create-an-R-package-in-windows/' Here it says that (step 8): "open a ?command prompt? window, change the directory to where your package is, type the command ?R CMD build MonteCarloPi? to build the package, this will generate a file

Symlinks for Windows
Hi all, Dave Burt mentioned the possibility of adding symlinks to the Dir class. http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/misc.shtml#junction There is also Autrijus Tang''s symlink Perl module at http://search.cpan.org/~autrijus/Win32-Symlink-0.04/ Looks easy enough, but it only seems to work for directories, not regular files. Should we add this to the Directory class, or simply

Samba-4.3 AD-DC Win7pro clients not time syncing
We have a Samba-4.3 AD-DC hosted on a FreeBSD-10.3 system. We have just discovered that for some reason our domain workstations are not synchronising their time with the AD-DC. We have not altered the default GPO nor have we created a special GPO to handle time services. I have been working on several of the domain clients and I cannot seem to get them to source from the Samba server. I have
