OpenSSH 3.3 & privlege seperation?
Wondering --- I know theo sent out a message asking vendors to get off their butts to get privlege seperation working, so what I'm wondering is whether this is happening/working/etc with Solaris? (specifically 8)...I know this is a portability question, since Sun doesn't support SSH on solaris 8.
not on the list, so please CC me. thanks.

File permissions
Is it possible to define file rights, such that -
The file is owned by root, with full privleges on the Linux server.
The file is shared by a group "users".
The shared file should be available for read and write access.
That part's easy - but now....
Deny delete, overwrite, or rename access to this file. Is this possible?

smbusers and root privs
Running samba-3.0.23c on Genoo linux
Is it possible with smbusers to allow a windows user to have root
privleges on a linux share?
A stock install of samba on Gentoo ends up with an /etc/samba/smbusers
file that contains this mapping:
root = administrator admin
It appears then that other windows users could as well be mapped to
root like:
root = administrator admin harry
and since I am the only user on...

Now image I could put users at any level of the domain, possibly even at
multple levels. If the user has administrative privleges, the user would be
able to edit the user accounts for other users in there domain, but not
users in other domains. So, Derek Jeter would be a user in the Yankees
domain, George Steinbrenner and admin user in the Yankees domain, David
Ortiz a user in the Red Sox domain, and Bud Selig an admin user...

unknown interface | win 2k server
Hi,
I implemented a samba(3.0.14a-Debian) server here on
my network. But i'm having problems with 2 stations.
One is a win2k(profissional) and the other is a win 2k
server (working like a station).
When i tried join in a domain using the
win2k(profissional) i receive the msg:
unknown interface
The strange is that it is happening only with this
win2k station. I have others stations with

Export Fixtures Plugin
= Description
This plugin is a super lightweight tool used to export data into the
test/fixtures directory.
So if you want to export all your data from your production server into your
development environment, this will simplify the process without having to
load up your database manager.

Debug/error codes
I know in some ways the answer is RTFM, but I'm not even sure which docs to
read or where they are.
I've posted about my printing problem before (Win2k SP2 won't print to my
Linux server printer), and even though I've had some suggestions, nothing
has worked (after a solid week of trying combinations in smb.conf, I'm
close to having to drop Linux and go to a complete

SeDiskOperatorPrivilege and 2012 R2 domain
Giving a domain user group privilege SeDiskOperatorPrivilege fails with
NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_PRIVILEGE.
The domain is controlled by a MS 2012 R2 DC. Has this privilege been
renamed or replaced with some other privilege? How to give the domain user
group necessary rights for defining file share permission settings from MS
environment?

Win32 and Backing up open files
...ate Windows.
I have struggled with the backup semantics options in order to get rsync
able to back up open files, and I got something that appeared like it
should work, but it didn't work. So I finally broke down and wrote a
holdopen.exe and a tryopen.exe to test my theory, and no matter what
privleges were enabled (backup and restore were enabled), a program
under Windows can _NOT_ open a file which has been opened if the
original opener has not specified read sharing. No matter what.
A much more careful reading of the docs indicates that backup semantics
only allow you to bypass _security_ re...

accounts beforehand, because I don't know (and don't care) what machines
will be joining the domain. And when I try to join a Win2K workstation to
the domain, it demands a username/password and then complains about having
insufficient privilege. I want all users to have sufficient privleges to
join any machine to the domain. How do I acomplish this?
Am I missing some security consideration here? Since, unlike NFS, a
Windows file server does not trust the client to authenticate the user, I
don't see why I should limit which machines can join my domain.
Also, can I get away withou...

I am working on a project where I am using bundle & Gemfile and it''s
working OK. The gems are all installed and a few git based gems are in
my ~/.bundler/ruby/1.8 directory which is OK I guess.
When I did an svn commit and checked it out on another user''s account, I
then ran ''bundle install'' from his account and even though all of the

mounting smbfs...
Hi.
I've been at it for a solid week now....trying to figure out how to mount a
smbfs-resource at boot. See i need to do the following;
mount -t smbfs //<machine_name>/<share> /home/<usr_name>/music
...only thing is, I have to run the cmd as a regular user. The easiest thing
would offcourse be to have i run at when booting, but i don't know how to do
that. Any help

...iskOperatorPrivilege is just stupid, really this needs to be changed on the wiki.
root = Adminstrator and Adminsitrator is in "Domain Admins" ....
so why not giving all privileges.
This should be always on Domain Admins imo, how else are you going to manage a domain without all needed privleges.
