You must have an account to gain access to the NT server. domain admin
i'm running samba-3.0.2 on a redhat 9 box with windows 2003. I've got a samba pdc up and running. I want a user to have domain admin privilidges. With samba 2.2.8a and windows 2000 this was easily accomplished with the following entry in [global] domain admin group = garvald this had the effect that garvald had full administrator rights upon logging into windows2000 through the samba pdc. This does not work with samba 3.0.2/windows2003 t...

I was under the impression that this is a good list. But maybe that isn't the case. I have asked multiple questions and have done tons of research before hand and tried to be as specific as possible. So far I haven't received any answers. All I wanted was information on getting a NT server to accecpt connections from UNIX. The documentation is to clumsy and very hard to read. The

NT domain accounts keep being locked out
Hi Using samba-2.0.0 on aix3.2.5.. Was using 1.9.18p10 before with no problems. I am authenticating through an NT domain (HCHQ) and have smb.conf set so most shares are public (though one gets updated by me every now and then). We never used encrypted passwords. I had 'read only = true' and 'write list = andreww jons' (I also 'force user' so that files are owned by me..)

samba won't give up root
...I connect as an unpriviliged user, but the smbd associated with the connection is still associated with root. Has anyone had this problem? It's very undesirable, as all the access controls are pretty much useless. I have gone over the logs with debuglevel == 100, but smbd claims it gives up privilidges. Thanks! -dave

Installing opensshd on Sun Cobalt Linux, shell interpreter issue
I have just installed openssh on my Sun Cobalt Qube, running Linux. The shell interpreter for the rc script forces /sbin/sh. This is defined in opensshd.init.in. This shell does not exist on this implementation of Linux. I have written about this in (much more) detail at http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/DaveLevy/20060104. NB This would seem to me to be a common problem but I havn't found

Method for joining machines to PDC without using root
currently, in order to join a win XP machine to a samba PDC, you have to use the root account (although you can use an smbpasswd and not the linux password). is there any way to set up another account to do this one particular task (one without uid=0)?. if we have users in remote places, i do not want to have to go over to their work station just to log them on the the domain. alsoi don't

System error 1314 has occurred
Hello all, I am using Samba on a Debian GNU/Linux box. I am trying to create a netlogon.bat file that will execute whenever a user logs in to the domain. However, I am getting a strange error message on the client workstations. The following is the netlogon.bat: echo Setting Current Time... net time \\xavier /set /yes echo Mapping Network Drives to Samba Server Xavier... net use Z:

Issues with Samba
Hi I cannot seem to find any information regarding this in the mailing lists . I am testing a UNIX PDC before I implement it to general use in the network . It works fine It would appear with the win 2000 clients. But I essentially have two problems 1. When I have PGP installed on the machine and log in with a roaming profile . It creates a network associates folder that does not get

You didn't give me some packages, so now I'm giving you some! R, TexLive, LyX, Gnumeric, etc.
I want up-to-dateish versions of TexLive, R, gnumeric, emacs, but on a more-or-less stable base of Centos-5.2. I asked for packages in this, but got no answers. So now I've built them and will let you try them if you want. I used the source packages from Fedora 8 and 9. I wanted TexLive because many of us have jumped ship to Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and it does offer TexLive, and the compatability
