Can't drop root group privileges
Hi all,
I need your insight. I've been testing Dovecot on an AIX 5.2
system. Compiled and running fine. We have some users on an
AIX 5.1 system, so I'm working on installing it there, so we
can do further testing.
I'm using Dovecot 1.0 RC15 with OpenSSL 9.0.7e, configured to use
port 10143 (imap) and 10993 (imaps). The error I'm seeing in the log is:

admin privileges on a single domain machine
...List!
I have a ldap based samba pdc with a few windows xp prof clients and a few
user accounts.
All the users have Domain User permissions.
Is it possible to give a Domain User admin privileges on a single box?
Lets say i have Machine A, B, C and D. Then user Foo should have normal
Domain User Priviles when he logs into A, B and C. BUT when he logs into
Machine D, he should have admin privileges.
Is that somehow possible?
Thanks, Mario

I spent all day yesterday trying to get a small data set from Splus into R,
no luck! Both, Splus and R, are run on a 64-bit RedHat Linux machine, the

R RSS feed
I was trying to subscribe to an RSS feed from
<http://developer.r-project.org/RSSfeeds.html> but IE chokes on DTDs and
Firefox also has trouble with this feed. (I'm not sure if it has trouble
with DTDs in general.)
I went to one of our web developers to see what I should use to read the
feed, and he pointed out that the mix of RSS 2.00 and rss-0.91 looks
like a mistake:

Data mining tools
Hello there, apologies for cross-posting
my question is not an S/R question but there is so much knowledge
concentrated in those lists that I thought someone could point me in the
right direction.
A few months ago I read an article in a referenced journal comparing some
data mining programs, among which there was Insightful's I Miner, SAS'
Entreprise Miner, SPSS' Clementine (I think)

Splitting data into test and train (80:20) kepping attributes similar
Hi,
I am trying to do some predictive modeling around attrition and want to split the dataset into test and train (80:20) and keep the ratio of attritees:non attrites same.
In my dataset the attrition indicator is coded as 0(for non-attritees) and 1 (for attritees) and I want to keep the ratio of 0's to 1 similar.
I apologize for this trivial question but this is my second week with R.

I googled around and everything I found, wheter it is forum posts or howtos, it always talks about winbind and joining the linux machine to the windows domain. I do not which to do this, I only want to get PAM to authenticate with the AD and then everything else is local.
Should I use pam_winbind ?

R version 2.10.0 (2009-10-26)

I am trying to create a model.matrix for a big model on a moderately large

GemPlugin or Mongrel::HttpHandler subclass
Hey all
I am working with a technology standard (specific to the commercial
print industry) by which each element within the workflow has bi-
directional HTTP messaging. As each side needs a http server, I
thought I could either:
a) use a gem plugin to modify the behavior of mongrel
b) subclass Mongrel::HttpHandler
In short, its xml messaging between two points; each with a HTTP

Disconnecting call for lack of RTP activity in 301 seconds
Hello,
I noticed that a call on hold is disconnected after 5 minutes, whatever
the value of the "rtpholdtimeout" parameter in sip.conf.
Tested from v1.8.10.0 to 1.8.32.3.
The version 1.8.8.0 is not affected. I don't know between 1.8.8.0 and
1.8.10.0.
Does anybody has a solution to increase the timeout of a call on hold ?
Is this a bug or a new parameter ?
Thanks.

Weird DNAT + passive FTP bug
Hello,
I''m observing a weird bug with ip_nat_ftp in a somewhat more complicated
constellation. It''s possible that XEN is also involved in this, but I''m
not sure.
What I''m trying to do is have XEN guest domains on a host, connected via
a bridge into a private network. The the privileged domain attaches to
this private network and acts as a NAT router to connect

Latest version RPM for RHEL5
Hello,
As of now, the latest version RPM for RHEL5 is 2.10 (http://probability.ca/cran/bin/linux/redhat/el5/x86_64/).
I would really like to be able to use some features/fixes in later versions. So can a 2.12.2 RPM for RHEL5 be compiled? Thank you.

remote browser and per-session dir
Running R on a remote system I can almost never get help.start() to
work, because it passes the request to my local browser, which cannot
see the "links in per-session dir" created in /tmp on the remote
machine. Is there a way to put the "per-session dir" in my home dir
(which is NFS mounted), or some other fix for this "feature"?

Execution timing in .First()
Hello,
I have a .First function in my personnal Rprofile file. Through the .First
function I want to load an R data base at position 2 in the search list but
R complains with:
"Attempting to load the environment 'package:stats'"
and further down the initialization process, when .First.sys() is run and
default packages are loaded, my newly loaded data base ends up at position
