Allowing Domain Admins root access
...w Linux boxes on which we have installed Samba and set them up so people can log in using their windows domain logins using winbind etc. All is working fine EXCPECT for the group memberships. I have a windows user who is a member of the "Domain Admins" group and I want them to have root privilegdes on the UNIX box. I added a group mapping using the command net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=root type=d but that just added another group called "Domain admins" which could be seen by running [root@xxx ~]# net groupmap list | grep Domain Domain Users (S-1-5-...

Copiying /etc/shadow with sudo and rsync
Hello, I have 2 server, which must rsync some files, including /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. Everything was working fine until we decided to forbid rootlogin on the server, and use sudo for the sync. My problem is that /etc/shadow has a file permission of 400, so the non privilegd user can not read it, so I can use a command like this: rsync --rsync-path='sudo rsync'

Setting ACLs with smbcacls fails (partly)
Hello, I'm running a PDC and a secondary DC in privilegded lxc containers and try to setup a fileserver in an unprivileged lxc container. The shares of the file server are on the ZFS of the host and mapped via bind-mount. I've got the problem, that I get error messages when setting the ACLs of a samba share either via the Windows explorer or using the smbcacls command. On Windows

[win2k] Epson777 "IT WORKS !!!!!"
Hello Family, (smb.conf file attached) Well I was here messing with the smb.conf file and don't ask me why or how but here it is and it prints to the Epson777 Stylus color inkjet with a "Edimax Mini Print Server" attached to the back with a static IP from Windows2000. The only slight quirk is that the "Epson Status Monitor" pops up looking for the printer trying to

drivers on the server. If this is the case I suspect you may need "use client driver = yes" in your printer share. For details please see the manpage for smb.conf, but here are a few snips... use client driver (S) This parameter applies only to Windows NT/2000 clients. It has no affect on Windows 95/98/ME clients. When

Printing Status - Access denied, unable to connect
Hi, I have Samba 2.2.3a setup on a RH Linux 2.4.18-10 box as a print server. It works fine, well kind of. The users can print their documents but on their end the get the good old "Access Denied, unable to connect" error. It does not seem to have any effect on the actual printing but its sucks not being able to cancel a job. Anyone know if it is possible to not get this error and

XP slow to print to Samba 3.0 alpha21 server
Hi all, As WinXP begins to loom larger in our environment, we're seeing a consistent pattern that XP machines (mostly XP Professional, possibly others) take an excessively long time to access shared printers: I'm told that it takes up to 5 minutes to initially install the printer on the local machine, and it typically takes around 45 seconds to deliver print jobs to the queue. The print

Prints ok, but says "Access denied, unable to connect". win2k and samba 2.2.1a
I have a small Samba 2.2.1a plus Win2k workgroup. Samba is running on Redhat 7.2. There is a networked laserjet 5000 using a static IP which I can print to successfuly from the linux box, and from the win2k workstations via the queue on the linux box. The weird thing is that, on the win2k worksations, if I double click on the printer icon the status of the printer is reported as "Access
