[URGENT] Assistance Requested in Looking for Dr Francis T. Seow, Harvard Law School Research Fellow
Hi,
First, I would like to apologize for the out-of-topic post. I will keep
this as short as I possibly could.
Does anybody know Dr. Francis T. Seow, the former Solicitor-General from
the Republic of Singapore? I want to contact him but can't seem to find
his email address or telephone number on the internet. Could you help me?
Do you also know how I can contact all the justices of the

scp doesn't have a 'Use non privileged port' switch
Hi,
and another feature request that I got from a debian user and that I
think should be included in openssh. Thanks.
|Unlike the 'old' ssh (Package: ssh; Version: 1.2.26-1.2)'s scp
|openssh's scp does not support the -L option which according to
|old ssh's manpage does the following:

Can SAMBA be used to map a WINDOWS directory to a UNIX SERVER (pa rticularly SOLARIS)?
Hi:
We were wondering if SAMBA can be used to make a windows share look like a
UNIX filesystem to the UNIX server? I know it works in reversre. Just
checking to see if there were new functionality I was not privy to.

ActiveRecord 1.13.2 -> 1.14.0 breaks Postgres connectivity
To Whom It May Concern:
I have an ActiveRecord-based application (non-Rails). Life was grand
until I upgraded ActiveRecord yesterday, after which point I was getting
TONNES of these errors from my app and in PostgreSQL''s logs:
FATAL: terminating connection due to administrator command
According to Google searching, this happens when an external process

VBR reencoding @128k problem
I did some further investigating into this issue and here's what I found:
It appears somewhere between ices0.1.0 and ices 0.2.0 is where the "bug" (for lack of a better term) was introduced that i'm noticing. When I compile ices0.2.0 w/lame 3.89beta, the VBR is *NOT* reencoded, but instead streamed out at full VBR bitrate(s). However, when using ices0.1.0 w/lame 3.89beta, it

Should '@" now be listed in tools:::.get_internal_S3_generics() ?
Karolis,
It seems likely, without having looked myself, that you could be correct
about the issue, but it does seem worth noting that both of the functions
you have mentioned are not exported, and thus not part of the API that
extension packages are allowed to use and rely on.
If retrieving the list of "internal S3 generics" is something package and
user code is allowed to do, the real

CentOS 5.4? anyone? - "debate"
Dear All,
If someone asks a question such as "When is Centos 5.4 coming out" bare
in mind that it may be because they genuinely want to know when it's
coming out, and feel that somehow, they have not been privy to that
information. To me, I see CentOS as a polished professional product
given what it is, a repackaging of RHEL, and to that end I have the
expectation of a fully

Should '@" now be listed in tools:::.get_internal_S3_generics() ?
Thank you for such a quick reply, Gabriel,
I am not too familiar with the package tools, so cannot speak too confidently, but below is how I see the issue currently.
The issue is not for external packages to rely on unexported functions from tools::, rather the issue is that 'R CMD check ?as-cran' runs those functions from tools:: in order to check the validity of Rd files (from any

A more concrete example in order to correct my vague messages below.
Writing an R package that uses `@` and `@<-` as S3 generics. Line from manual pages in .Rd files:
\method{@}{newclass}(object, name) <- value
Throws this error during R CMD check ?as-cran
Bad \usage lines found in documentation object ?code?:

But this might require a more detailed investigation. For example I just noticed that even with the patch `@` is still not listed in .S3_methods_table().

who are hieraki authors for manuals.rubyonrails.org
Hi all,
Does anybody know anybody who is a hieraki author for
manuals.rubyonrails.org?
I''ve been waiting for my account to be approved for several months now.
I''d really like to contribute to the online manuals, which seem to be
lacking in various places, e.g. functional testing for action mailers etc.
Or is there some special mechanism for becoming an author that I am not

Normality test
Dear Sir,
I am writing to inquire about normality test given in nortest package. I
have a random data set consisting of 300 samples. I am curious about which
normality test in R would give me precise measurement, whether data sample
is following normal distribution. As p value in each test is different in
each test, if you could help me identifying a suitable test in R for this

Administrator
Hi to the list.
Our network = mix of Win98 and XP Pro logging onto Samba3.04 hosted on SuSE9.1
Auth is via passwd and smbpasswd.
No Microsoft AD at all - Samba does all the auth, therefore winbind is not
required?
I would like to logon to some of the XP Pro boxes as a normal network user,
but at the same time be 'Administrator' on the machine. Adding myself to the

Whats wrong in this smbclient picture
Running smbclient 2.2.0-alpha2
on Redhat Linux 7.0
I don't have a fully installed samba suite with full setup and really
only use smbclient occasionally like an ftp client. I'm able to
access a win2k and win98 box that way from my linux workstation.
Able to access but not transfer anything to the win98.
Although I can transfer files from/to the win2k box.
I have no passwords set on

This issue might go deeper - I was not successful in passing R CMD checks for the usage files. R CMD check kept showing errors for `@` declarations, even thou they were identical to `$` declarations (which passed fine).
Seems like the usage check functions are not prepared for `@` - also in tools:::.S3_method_markup_regexp

gnome 2.12 via yum?
Hello,
I was asked a question regarding centos that i do not know the answer. I
don't use gnome or x on any box i deploy for production use so haven't
checked in to this. CentOS4 comes with gnome 2.8 from what i was told, the
question is is it possible to do an update rpmwise to gnome 2.12 via yum? If
so, what repositories do i need to enable to pull this off and what if any
