keytabs basics linux <=> AD ?
hi users
a novice here hoping to grasp fundamentals soon
I have a samba+sssd as a client to an AD - I have all the
keytabs for a host(I think) but I noticed weird(to me at
least) smbclient behavior.
when I do:
$ smbclient -L swir -U me at AAA.PRIVATE.DOM -k
all works, clients sees local samba's shares, when I do:
$ smbclient -L swir.private.aaa.private.dom -U
pe243 at AAA.PRIVATE.DOM -k

rsync backups on Mac OS X - mknod errors + icon disappears...
Hi
I am a rsync (on Mac OS X, RsyncX version with extended HFS+/-eahfs
forks) beginner (I merely use it for backing up my desktop machine to a
bootable
external firewire volume, so that I can resume work in case of a
harddrive disaster)
and I got these messages:

[PATCH 06/10] s390/cio: add basic protected virtualization support
As virtio-ccw devices are channel devices, we need to use the dma area
for any communication with the hypervisor.
This patch addresses the most basic stuff (mostly what is required for
virtio-ccw), and does take care of QDIO or any devices.
An interesting side effect is that virtio structures are now going to
get allocated in 31 bit addressable storage.

[PATCH v2 3/8] s390/cio: add basic protected virtualization support
From: Halil Pasic <pasic at linux.ibm.com>
As virtio-ccw devices are channel devices, we need to use the dma area
for any communication with the hypervisor.
It handles neither QDIO in the common code, nor any device type specific
stuff (like channel programs constructed by the DASD driver).
An interesting side effect is that virtio structures are now going to

[PATCH v5 3/8] s390/cio: add basic protected virtualization support
As virtio-ccw devices are channel devices, we need to use the
dma area within the common I/O layer for any communication with
the hypervisor.
Note that we do not need to use that area for control blocks
directly referenced by instructions, e.g. the orb.
It handles neither QDIO in the common code, nor any device type specific
stuff (like channel programs constructed by the DASD driver).

Samba 4 DC backups
I have a few Samba 4.2 DC in production now and figured that I should do
something about backups.
I have read
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Backup_and_restore_an_Samba_AD_DC and
had a look through the samba_backup script and have a few questions.
Firstly I am using the Sernet packages on Centos7.
I am assuming the following mappings from the script for my set up

samba_backup
Hallo,
i tried to backup samba4 by using the samba_backup script. I removed
?>/dev/null 2>&1?-Pipe from the tar-commands. Tar could not archive the
temporary msg-files, because they where open. My question is, do I need the
temporary msg-files for a complete samba4 database-backup? Thank you.

Samba4 fails to work following upgrade - library version errors
Hello,
I was running Samba4 for a while on my Raspberry Pi (Raspbian distro, running 3.6.11+ #371 PREEMPT armv6l kernel).? The version of Samba I was running was 4.1.0pre1-GIT-fd8b258.
Last night I decided to try to upgrade to see if I could upgrade it without breaking it.
Note that the AD this Pi is the DC for doesn't have any physical clients as members; I was using a Virtual PC running

Hi everyone, I am running Samba 4.5.16-Debian on Raspbian OS and I am
currently attempting to deploy the provided samba-backup.sh script
within my existing SAMBA installation to implement disaster recovery on
my AD DC servers.
Following the documentation provided here

Samba panic when accessing DNS domain entry with RSAT DNS tool
Hi everybody,
for some time now I have an issue with our samba/bind9-DLZ setup which
became worse lately.
I use the RSAT DNS tool to configure DNS records. In the past it
sometimes happened, that DNS died when accessing the domain zone. This
condition could only be resolved by restarting samba on the affected DC.
Unfortunately the situation got worse and configuration/modification of
