winxp + sp3 = samba-shared printer hangs the system
hi, since I upgraded some winxp-pro sp2 client to sp3, my samba-shared printers are no-longer usable :-/ With sp3, if I run notepad and choose the men? File-Print, the "print" window hangs and does not show any printer for about 1 minute! The same thing happens when I click on the men? Start-settings-Printer and faxes. With sp2, everything works correctly and I can browse all my

PrintUIEntry for NT4?
For Win2K, I've been using RunDLL32 printui.dll, printuientry to do a bunch of different printer related stuff (most notably, mapping printers and setting the default). Looks like NT4 doesn't have the same stuff. Is there anything classier I can use than NET USE under NT4 (without downloading something like Kixstart)? Thanks for your help. ---- _ _ _ _ ___ _ _ _ |Y#| | | |\/| |

login scripts --what to use
Hi, We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share. Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files? Thanks, chris

how do you manage printers on workstations?
How do you manage printers on Windows workstations? What I mean, suppose you have many classrooms, different printers (which sometimes change) in these classroms - how do you manage which workstation (or a group of them) will use which printer? So far I've been using WPKG for that - as I described here: http://wpkg.org/wiki/index.php/Printer_configuration But somehow I feel it

adding printers from netlogon script
While this doesn't relate specifically to Samba, I need to do this in a netlogon .bat file in a Samba domain. In my network, I have a printer hooked to a JetDirect so that it is a TCP/IP printer. Is there a way I can automatically have this printer mapped/added when the user is logged on? -- Andrew Gaffney

Samba-Cups: all works except browsing when printer is not defined in smb.conf
Cups 1.2.7 Debian Etch with Samba 3.0.24 Clients: WinXP SP3 (with Firewall completely off for testing) When I define a printer specifically in smb.conf, they show up as shared printers in WinXP. But when I follow the normal way (see below) to load all from cups they don't. I followed mainly the latest SAMBA-HOWTO (chapter 21-22) The only error I see in log.smbd when accessing the

win 7, samba 3.4.7, error 0x000003e6 with some printers
Hello, I'm testing windows 7 with samba 3.4.7 and I'm using PrintUIEntry to connect the printers. With some of those printers the connection fails (client side) with error 0x000003e6. The strange thing is that: 1) trying the same connection against samba 3.0.11 works (alas, no domain functionality with that old version) and 2) two of the failing printers share the same driver with

Multiple Login scripts
Hi all, Just a quick question about login scripts for a large number of users who change rooms a lot. I have several rooms each with a printer, and nearly a thousand users divided into two main groups - pupils and teachers who change rooms on a routine basis. Is it possible to set up multiple login scripts that would be executed in sequence i.e. run by user is %u, and machine is %m is it

Printing w/ CUPS
When using CUPS with Samba 2.2.x do all printers need to be installed per user? That is, can I not go through as administrator in WinXP and install all of the printers for, say, a group of labs, and then have them installed and available to have them set as the default w/ a script as users login as domain users? setting printing preference in 3.0.1 for 'HP LJ 4/4M plus'
Hi Jerry et al, I'm using the 3.0.1 release on Solaris 9 in security mode ADS. It works fine in general. But there are some problems with printer drivers. For ex the HP LJ 4/4M plus driver can not be set to 'A4' from 'letter' in the printing preferences. I use 'rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /p /t3 /n\\...' to get to the dialogue, so I'm pretty sure I try to

DIFFICULT printing question SAMBA/WinXP/Cups
hi there following this guide http://de.samba.org/samba/docs/man/printing.html#id2933004 i try to add network printers on clients via startup-script my problem: samba should just be the "driver provider" and not spool print jobs...those should go directly to the printers it should just give the needed driver to the client and tell him, that he should use a TCP/IP port and NOT the

script to automatically install printers to win clients?
Hi I have a samba server 3.0.0-15 acting as a PDC on a Windows domain (98, XP and 2000). Is there a way to automatically install printers to windows clients when users log in? Maybe by running a logon script... Thank you in advance. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Win a $20,000 Career Makeover at Yahoo! HotJobs

Samba printing via CUPS fails
Hi Having switched my Samba server from a Solaris box to a RHEL3 Linux box I cannot get printing to work. Linux box is using CUPS to reference various network available printers. Printer drivers have been made available from the Samba server itself under print$. The Samba version is 3.0.9-1.3E.13.2 (the default with RHEL3) and CUPS is 1.1.17-13.3.43 (again the RHEL3 default) [print$]

HP Laserjet WinXP driver install on samba 3.2.5 --> explorer.exe crash
Hi folks, I have a samba PDC with about 5 printers (from HP, Kyocera and Canon) and except the one HP Laserjet 2055 PCL6 all drivers (installed via 'Add Printer Wizard Driver Installation') for all printers did install well and without major issues in the print$-driver-share. With this driver all seems well until I finally hit the "ok"-button in the printer properties
